An authentic bavarian-style hefeweizen. Light and refreshing, with the hazy appearance and tangy flavor characteristic of its style.

A small cloud floated around the glass. Nice unfiltered hefeweizen. Well spiced. Rated 8/28/02

on tap- Yeast creates a banana-cinnamon aroma. Flavor is creamy-peppery. A well done beer that didn’t lose as much as many people have described from the bottled and shipped version, just not to my taste.

Ligtht golden appearance with small white head that quickly faded. Spicey aroma that was thin. Flavor of spice, clove, pepper with hint of banana kind of muddled together. Average.

2003 bottle. Pours a light yellow, mostly clear with a small white head. Nose of light malt grains and a bit of hay. Some yeast and corn flour. Flavor is very balanced, having light clove, honey, grains and a bit of toasted grains. Light citrus on the end, faintly sweet. This is not really a stylistic german hefe, but it’s good and drinkable. Medium body, no thinning.

Paid $1.50 for a 12-oz single. Golden in color with a gigantic head. Slightly fruity and yeasty in the nose, but not much there. Sweet, slightly chocolate malty, believe it or not. Also very wheaty.

Nice banana nose with a light spicey end. Hazy yellow in colour. Crisp malts and light spices, with a touch of lemon, some bananas. Light bodied. Honest.

Wheaty aroma. A little bit of clove in there. Light body. Wheat notes, and a slight lemony hint. Still, an abnormally restrained version of the style. Smutty is still a hit-and-miss brewery to me.

Light golden colour with almost no head. Definately not hazy, and thus most likely an unfiltered wheat. Some bananas and yeast in the aroma, actually fairly nice. Lemony in the taste along with the medium-bodied yeastieness. Not much in the aftertaste, a bit of drying, but fairly mild. Nothing too special about this one, but nothing outlandishly bad either. Just a spot on hefe. Worth trying if you can find it, but if you can find other Smutty's, pick up the Big A, Portsmouth Lager or Robust Porter instead. I bought this 12 ounce bottle at Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, New York.
