From Jun 2007
Purchased at Wilbur's Liquors in Ft Collins as part of 2 make my own 6 packs.
Pours from 12oz bottle(best by Jan 31 2006) a hazy straw gold with a very large head of foam that lingers on for the entire session and it has some very good lacing.
The smell, well, is *very* nice. I get notes of caramel malt and some hops in the background. If I were blindfolded, I could tell that this brew was from the UK.
The taste is a very finely balanced flavour of caramel malt and those yummy Fuggles hops which impart just the slightest hint of citrus. Yummy.(again) It's very flavourful and only sags right at the finish where I'd describe it as very dry. Damn. This is a very easy drinker and I'm already down to my last 2 or 3 ounces. I'd certainly buy this one again.
Bottom line: This is a very tasty English Pale Ale, even though it's almost a year and a half past its best by date. I'd love to sample a fresh bottle.

Cask at the York tap. Pours clear amber with a thin white head. Aromas of caramel, faint earthy hops. Taste is light malt, light grassy finish. Not bad.

Cask @ The Unicorn, Manchester. Golden with a light malty character. It’s crisp with a small sweetness that lingers.

Crystal clear light copper coloured body with a faint golden tint and a thinnish white head. Aroma of cardboard, pale malt, a very light hop aroma and some fake sugars. Light-bodied; Sharp twang of citrus, blood, metal and a funky malt taste. No hops at all in the taste - this one is a clear loser. Aftertaste shows the horribly bittering malt followed by an even worse aftertaste. Overall, a very bad beer - definitely not worth trying at all. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverages in Albany, New York on 24-December-2005.

Bottle. Clear, golden ale with a lasting off-white head. Cellar, malt, some notes of caramel, and fruity. I guess the cellar-notes was caused by too long cellaring, it was a month past BB-date, so I ignore that when rating it. There was cellar in the flavor as well. In addition, the flavor had grapefruit, bitterness from the hops, and in general, it was quite fruity. Medium body. Quite fruity finish with some pine. A quite balanced and drinkable beer, but a bit boring. The cellar-note actually made it more interesting... (070527)

Dark orange body with short white head. Aroma of sweet malts and hops, including flowers, with notes of caramel and cookie. Moderately sweet flavor with a moderately bitter finish. The medium body is slightly sticky. Lively carbonation. Nice, refreshing English ale.

Pours orange-red amber into an English pint. Off-white micro head with good retention leaves scum as it slowly recedes. Bright shiny malt and hop aromas. Soft with upfront strawberries and caramel and a hint of fuggles in the finish. Very smooth and drinkable.

Bottle, "Best Before" box empty. Lifting the cap releases a light hoppy smell, and a head working its way up the neck to a small nipple of foam. The pour is not so much blonde as pale brown, a bit like tea poured on top of lemon juice. Spongy eggshell head, now a nice sweet malty smell. Taste lets a floral punch of English hops come up front, then some nutty malt roast. A nice showpice for one of those English hops we hopheads might overlook otherwise. Force carbonation is a little too "hard" for such a hoppy beer, abd is just a slight ding on the Palate rating. I hope to find this exists in cask one of these days. Found at Sam’s Wines, Downers Grove.
