Samuel Adams Rustic Saison is an incredibly complex yet refreshing beer in the classic style of Belgian farmhouse ales. These blonde ales were traditionally brewed to quench the thirst of farmers throughout the summer months. The unique character of our brew comes from its Belgian yeast that imparts floral, fruity, and spicy flavors. These are layered with a slight earthiness and a citrusy, herbal hop character for a bright and satisfying summer brew.

12 oz bottle. Pours clear golden with a white head. Yeast-dominated aroma with bubble gum, clove, cotton candy. Flavor is fairly dry, with the yeasty bubble gum, banana, green apple, herbal flavors. Just a decent beer, a bit heavy on herbal flavor.

12 oz bottle from Summer Sampler from Vons. Nose of yeast, bubblegum, and maybe some light cloves in the background. Clear urine yellow with a small pale yellow head. Flavor is bubblegum and light caramelly sweetness. Finish shows a hint of bitterness, but not much. Saison? If I rated to style it would be a 1.0. Not bad tasting but a saison?

Pours pale yellow into a Sam glass. Off-white conglomerate head with good retention recedes leaving scant spiders to coat surface. Sweet yeast and lemon aromas. Dry with sweet biscuit and grass upfront turning to sour hay in the medium length finish.

Draft. Clear golden body with a white, frothy head, slowly diminishing. Light aroma of grass and grain along with a hint of biscuit and honey and a touch of mustiness. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation. The aftertaste is floral and earthy, but lightly so. This is a delicate beer and on the thin side, but it is refreshing and has plenty of character for a 4% beer. The goal, according to the commercial description, was to create a thirst-quenching, traditional farmhouse ale for the summer. It is thirst-quenching. And good for summer. But a saison?

12 oz bottle into tulip. Bought the summer variety pack at a local supermarket. Pours yellowish-gold with a medium white head that collapses fairly quick; leaves a light blanket and collar of foam. Smells of pepper, wet dog (this offnote seems to fade away pretty quickly). Taste is sweet and spicy with a slight bitterness in the finish; leaves a grainy aftertaste. The Belgian yeast strain is prominent in flavor. Medium-high carbonation and medium-light bodied. I donβt understand why this has such low scores on here. I think itβs pretty good. Eminently chuggable for those hot summer days.

Location: Draft at Iron Monkey, 4/23/11
Aroma: The nose had some spice, lemon/citrus, and some yeasty notes as well
Appearance: Poured a clearish golden-orange color with a decent sized whit head
Flavor: The taste was a decent mix of spice flavors, citrus, and some earthy hops
Palate: It was light-medium bodied, with an average duration, and above average carbonation
Overall Impression: I have to admit, when I saw this I was curious to see how Sam Adams would do with a saison, and my verdict? They did OK. That's pretty much what you can say about this beer, it is an OK saison. There wasn't anything wrong with it per se, but there wasn't anything stand-out about it either. Rather drinkable, but ultimately unremarkable.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a pale yellow with a medium white head. The aroma is lemons, coriander, and weak barnyard yeast. The flavor is tart, with a fructose sweetness and a faint bitterness. The palate is light and effervescent . Overall, a watery and relatively flavorless saison.

A golden blonde saison with a thick frothy off white head. In aroma, a pleasant spiced mix of cloves, coriander, curacao, quite nice and fruity. In mouth, an almost lager like offering with crisp malts overlayed by light coriander, chalky, dissapointing. On tap at PA Flavor, April 9th, 2011.

Pour is a bright gold with a large white head. Aroma is some dry malts and a little lemon zest. Flavor is some dull grain and nothing else. No Belgian yeast or anything remotely saison like with this one. A big miss on this one.

Draft @ Cervezas. Pours pale straw yellow color with off white head. Aromas of bananas, dough and some spices. Same flavors, pretty watery. Thin body with lively carbonation. No farmhouse character at all. Not very good.
