Brewed with loads of roasted and black malts, and over 2 gallons VT maple syrup per barrel, this beauty was carefully aged for over a year in Sapling Maple Liquor oak barrels from Saxton's River Distillery in Brattleboro, VT. This rich and complex beer will mature for many months. Made for sub-zero nights, and for pairing with decadent desserts.

GABF 2015. Deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Loads of maple syrup, some roast / smoke, coffee, a little bit of char. Somewhat sweet but not cloying. Kind of a fun Impy Stout to boost.

Bottle thanks to NickDrista! Pours inky black, medium brown head, lasts and laces well. Aroma is roasty, cocoa, maple, woody. Flavor is medium sweet, fully bitter, lots of cocoa, wood tannins and maple. Pretty damn hot. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Lingering bitterness and a bit of a bite from maple. Interesting.

12.7 oz. bottle, sent from Chippo33 (thanks a lot, Paul), pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of maple syrup upfront, caramel, and subdued roasted malt. Flavour is much more maple-dominated than the base beer, with loads of maple syrup, caramel and subdued roasted malt. Way more maple-y than the base beer, making it a touch cloying. Good stuff, but I much prefer the regular base beer.

Bottle #157/180 at THE stouts tasting part 2, thanks to Ken. It pours opaque deep brown with a small light tan head. The nose is roasted malt, coffee, maple, pleasant sweetness and not much else... The taste is roasty, maple syrup, toast, wood, earth, nice bitterness, chocolate and alcohol warmth. Full body, moderate carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. Not a whole lot of complexity, but rather drinkable stuff.

Stouts and Porters II. Bottle 157/180. Opaque dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Light airy palate, slightly soft and dry. Sweetish dark malt, dry. Mild minerals. Mellow coffee and a sweetish aniseed. Finishes dry with the coffee getting sweeter. Not bad - a bit off the beaten track.

Bottle shared at Bruce’s, London during The Stouts Tasting, Pt. II - big thanks to Kenneth. Fella comes up big with the VT obscurity. Pours black-brown with a fine, beige cream head. Sugary, dark bread in the nose, some sweet chocolate. Big sweet flavor, some boozy kick, alcohol-soaked raisins, baking cocoa, burnt wood. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish, bitter chocolate, stern roast, earth. Good stuff overall if a touch heavy-handed at times. Good depth, though. (3.9)

Bottle in NH - big thanks to Adam for sharing. Pours black-brown with a frothy, tan foam head. Sweet dark malt nose, some cocoa. Medium to big sweet flavor with dark fruits, alcohol, charred wood and burnt caramel. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately warming to finish with burnt sugars, more charred wood. Good, though a touch one-dimensional at points. Still, tasty. (3.8)

Big thanks for dak for opening this series of Imperial Stouts at the Annual Black Friday tasting. It pours with a dark mahogany body that supports a thin mocha colored head. The aroma offers up dark roasted malts, burnt malts, a touch of oak and then molasses infused bourbon. The taste is smooth and attains a nice richness with dark roasted malts and molasses moving into sweet vanilla and smooth bourbon like booze. This leaves behind a pleasing mix of roasted malts, molasses and smooth booze.

Thanks Wally for hooking us up! I had this at around room temperature in a Riedel Snifter. 2011 Vintage.

A - 1-Finger head that was almost black with tight bubbles. The beer itself was a solid black. You only saw it was brown when pouring but can’t tell once the beer is in the glass.

S - Figs, raisins, apples and TONS of maple syrup. The bottle says 2 gallons of syrup were used per barrel.

T - I’m tasting a lot here. First of all, molasses is easy to pick out followed by oak, smoke and the astringency of this was very high. It’s a very malty beer with lots of toffee notes.

M - HUGE carbonation. and it’s a medium bodied beer that lingers for a while

O - This beer was fantastic but it was also very heavy. I would have to share this with a friend to really enjoy it.
