Kenmore Kölsch

[2/2/17] Draught at Boston Beer Works Canal Street in Boston. Yellow. Grainy, kinda fruity, bread, sweetish, slightly bitterish finish. Just another brewpub blonde.

Draft. Pours clearish yellow gold with white head. Nose/taste of malt and light pine. Clean finish. Medium body.

Draught at the Boston brewpub. Mild fruity aroma. Clear shiny yellow colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is fruity with a refreshing bitterness. Quite clean. Not unlike a real Kölsch.

A blonde Kolsch with a thin white head. In aroma, a very chalky powder with German hops, crisp. In mouth, a classy Kolsch with loads of Saaz hops, grainy malt, chalky and medium bodied. On tap at Canal St. brewpub July 11 2010.

Approximately 4 oz pour as part of a 4 beer taster (this was a bonus taster due to a keg change). Pour is clear golden with a lively white head. Aroma is straw and hay, along with a dusty earthiness. Taste starts nicely with the straw and hay, then gets a bit dusty and dirty, then shows some diacetyl. There is also something of a clove present which detracted. Palate is thin to medium, lowish carbonation. I saw them change the keg, so I know it was freshly tapped - yet tasted a bit past it. Too bad, I generally enjoy the style.

Sample from tap at the brewpub in Canal street. Pours clear golden yellow with a white head. Mild malty and bitterhops aroma. Flavour is mellow sweet malty with fruity whiff to it. Nice soft light sweet and vaguely bitter finish. Good koelsch.

One finger of white head actually persists, even leaving moderate lacing as it recedes. Clarity is high and a sparkling golden-straw color is shown, with plentiful carbonation.
Strong, crisp graininess is dry and perfectly resembles a kolsch. A pinch of dry herbs/flowers is all you get in the hop department, but the yeast is quite crisp and aromatic on the finish, leaving dry peach/nectarine/grape skin esters and some light minerals. A definite biscuitiness and very light, watered-down honey notes mix in after it breathes. No alcohol and impressively, no flaws. Medium strength of aroma. Lacking lemon and vanilla notes, and not in a bad way, it just seems like the correct malt bill and yeast, with proper lagering were used here to make not an earth-shattering rendition (would need more malt and stronger yeast apparency), but a very solid one, nonetheless.
Sure enough, the flavor holds up, adding dry, pale barley notes, crisp and lightly nutty. Apple and pearskins, sweetened by just a hint of lemon lead in to a mineral-laden finish that is crisp and quenching. Carbonation isn’t too pesky, though it could stand to be tighter, as usual from BeerWorks. Hops are almost wholly lacking, only adding a touch of dry grass up front. Attenuation is great, however, and the flavors are very authentic, if somewhat diluted by a noticeable wateriness. Still, wateriness is pretty passable in a Kolsch and though I wanted a stronger concentration of flavor, I was happy with what was there.

on tap-pours a white head with pale yellow color. Aroma is grassy, malt, light hops, citrus. Taste is balanced hops & malt. On the lighter side, nice.
