Firefly Amber Ale has been a staple in our brewpub for the past 5 years. After 4 years of brewing our beloved amber, I decided to change things up a bit and double the recipe. Twice the amount of malt and hops went in to our kettles and created something fantastic, something SuperFly! To take this new creation to the next level we allowed it to age inside brandy barrels for 8 months. Big notes of biscuit, caramel, toffee, and tantalizing brandy character that contributed fruity complexities and hints of American oak. Pair with stinky cheeses, bread pudding, and beef burgundy.

Bottle shared downtown during RBWG 2014 - Asheville Late-Nite. Cheers! Pours clear gold with a bubbly head. Tangy and leafy, lightly astringent, with notes of wood and ripening berries. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Tangy and drying on the finish, woody. OK.

(Thanks Josh "StFun") Bottle. A- Shit, sewage water, slightly boozy, caramel. A- Copper color, hazy liquid, off white head. T- Caramel, slightly boozy, dirty, unbalanced, slightly sour. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, astringent finish. O- This was really bad. So bad and off tasting, I can’t help but believe this is infected. That or Jackie O’s made such an awful beer that it was a drain pour. Plus, I don’t think this was supposed to be sour at all. Big let down with this one.

2014 RBWG. Bottle shared at the Friday Night Downtown Inn Bottle Share 2011 bottle #127/341. Clear medium brown almost no head. Complex aroma. Vinous. There’s a slightly sharp vinous sourness to this that detracts from the overall. Started better than it ended up.

Hazy amber brown beer, short lived off white head. Fairly dry palate with moderate carbonation. Sweet dry malt. Dried fruits. A little wood and sweet brandy. Dry finish. All right but I was hoping for something a lot more substantial and structured.

Thanks to Aaron for sharing - hazy orange - no head - aroma of brandy, orange marmalade, light oak, mild acidity - flavor is highly oaky, a weird cheesy funk, some orange and other citrus notes - odd grapefruit bitterness - very strange brew.

Bottle @ Armin’s house. Hazy, reddish ruby appearance with a small, tan head. Raspberry, tangy berry, spicy liquor, a touch bready aroma. Rich, red grape, brandy, dry, caramel, spicy, berry flavor. Fuck, this baby is all over the place. Drinkable but a little oxidized and not all that great.

Bottle shared at RBWG 2012. Pours a cloudy orange copper with small frothy off white head. The aroma is oak and vanilla. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet malt. A decent American strong ale from Jackie-O’s.

Bottle shared by smokepot23. Pours with a hazed amber hued body with a small off-white head. Aromas of caramel, brandy, alcohol, barrel, fruity and lightly bready. Flavors have a discernible tartness to them. Brandy, bready and caramel notes otherwise with some currants and other fruitiness. Medium to low carbonation. Seems a bit thin.

Re-rate: Bottle thanks to GRG1313. Numbers are the same. Clear orangey hue with minimal head. Aromas of plums, brown sugar, malty, caramel and currant. Flavors are marmalade, brown sugar, maple, mild citrus. Medium to carbonation.
