Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a slim finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that dissipated at a gentle pace. Mild lacing ran around the glass in a messy sort of way.
The smell started off with a mild sweet to rustic sort of crisp coffee tones running into some bitter piney hops.
The flavor takes the bitter portion of the piney hops and leads on further into the bbitterness of the coffee tones. Big bitter piney to coffee aftertaste and finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sipping quality about it. Carbonation seemed fairly strong but still allowing enough harshness from the bitter hops and coffee tones to cling to my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good black IPA that I could have again. And the alcohol level really wasn’t felt.

Bottle split at Bruce’s pad, thanks to the CDA finder general, 27/03/14. Hazed dark mahogany brown with a moderate light tan swirl atop the glass. Nose is punchy hops, dark berry fruit notes, bitter grapefruit, grassy, light spice. Taste comprises bitter hops, roasty bite, grapefruit, cooca powder. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Decent enough CDA.

Light airy malt cream. Mild tangy fruits and floral notes. Bitter pine and a trace of dark chocolate. Light dry finish. Not bad at all.

Bottle shared in London - picked up in VT. Pours black-brown with a frothy khaki head. The nose has grapes, moderate roast, dry cocoa. Light to medium sweet flavor with dried citrus, burnt toast, cocoa. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Decent finish, some baking cocoa, good roast, dry grapefruit, burnt grass and pine. Split a 22oz bottle. Poured a dark brown color with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma was roasted malts, with some citrus and pine bitterness in there. Flavor was pine citrus, with some caramel notes. A pretty well balanced Black IPA. Enjoyed it a lot.

22oz bottle-shared @Small Tasting at my place-pours black with red tint and a rich/foamy tan head. Aroma is resin, 2nd sweet dark malt-roasty. Taste is sweet resin/pineapple hops with some bite, cocoa/chocolate/roasty-dark malt. Taste is more complex than the nose. Ok carbonation. As it warms, some licorice too.
