Found a bottle dated September 2012, which is a great date if you follow the history of this beer. Toffee, butterscotch, soft and roasted malt, some nuts and enough hops to create some counterbalance to the dark sweetness. Over the last year the brewery has introduced some confusing Belgian yeasts into this and some other of their higher octane Imperial IPAs, Barleywines, and nut brown ales. I’m not telling you what store in the Ottawa/Gatineau area I got this from. I am going back to buy out their stock!

Hazy amber pour, big offwhite head. Great hoppy aroma, loads of butterscotch and caramel malts. Kick ass lingering sweet bitterness. The carb is low but perfect, and the mouthfeel is just a tas viscous. This is so smooth and easy drinking its very dangerous, great barley wine!

Bottle 0.75l from the brewery, probably somewhat aged. Cloudy, reddish amber colored. AROMA- jam of red berries, strawberries, cherries, candied orange, touch of alcohol. FLAVOR- smooth, slightly sweet, quite bitter resiny finish, the same as aroma, caramel, pale plums. Fuller bodied. Nice barley wine.

Keg at Brasseur du Temps, Gatineau. Hazy mahogany colour, rich creamy head. Spicy tea aroma. Very sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Oolong tea and caramel, brown sugar and herbal bitter spices. Mildly warming finish with lingering herbal bitterness. Interesting, but feels too sweet and young at this point. I can imagine this beer is suitable for (barrel) aging.

Ça sent les fruits cuits (prune et orange entre autres) et c’est fort bien houblonné. Il y a un arrière-goût un peu déplaisant...

Lots of caramelized malt here. Smell is a little off-putting, though aroma is fine. Some tang, citrus and hops in aroma. Pours orange with good head and lacing. Tap at brewpub.

Bottle shared by me at Alan’s house. Given to me by Chad. Thanks Chad! Pours brown with off white head. Nose and taste of toffee, caramel malt, orange peel, butterscotch, light sherry and bready malt. Medium body. well balanced.

750ml bottle pours a clear, dark caramel amber with some thin, lacing, eggshell head. Nose is nice malty, orange, honey, cracker, some brown sugar, a little brown bread, pine, some cardboard. Flavor is very sweet, caramel, brown sugar, honey, bread crust, some orange, some lemon, some pine, a little soap. Full bodied, sticky finish, port. Needed some time in the air to open up, almost like a bottle of red wine.

Bouteille 750ml. Couleur brun acajou, mousse beige tenace laissant une belle dentelle. Arôme de malt grillé, d’orge et de prunes. Goût de caramel en grande quantité, fruits confits, alcool léger. Carbonation faible, corps un peu faible.
