The recipe is based upon an original beer made by Whitakers of Halifax in 1937.
A smooth well balanced traditional ruby bitter. Five different malts including crystal and amber create a rich toffee/cherry flavour. Earthy Fuggles and Goldings hops combine in a smooth English character with hints of kiwifruit and toffee.
Great with sausages or a Sunday roast. Also good with mature cheddar.

500ml Bottle conditioned: best before Dec 2013, poured into my Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 27 Nov 2012. Looked impressive: huge tan coloured head on a lovely ruby body with carbonisation bubbles rising through the clear beer. The smell was malts all the way: nutty, chocolatey and toasted brown bread. Flavour wise again the malts rule the tastes: still nutty, but so chocolatey, toasted/roasted biscuits with fruit notes within the biscuit. There is also an undertone of hop bitterness throughout the taste which balances out the semi-sweet malty molasses that are trying to take over completely. Well carbonated and almost ’fizzy’ on the palate.

500ml bottle - a lovely beer. Pours a deep ruby - nearly black - with a thick white head which lasts throughout. Nice smoky aroma, with hints of burnt cereal. Nice earthy bite with a good mouth feel and an after taste of toast. Very good.

50cl bottle, batch 2279, BB 07/2013.

Bottled (BC)@Bishops Arms Vasagatan, Stockholm. Amber colour, small beige head. Aroma is quite bitter fruity and floral. Flavour is fruits, some floral notes, mild yeasty and sweet maltyness as well. Rather carbonated, but otherwise smooth and nice. Some rather vegetably notes start to show once it warms up a bit.
