Dark mahogany with magenta-crimson highlights and a good clarity. Dark beige head fades quickly to a ring, then nothing.
Haha, well....after certainly experiencing the early batches of OEC’s dark sours and having tried my fair share of acetic acid bombs, I held a few back to see if they would soften with age. Ahem. No, not so much....Thankfully this is the last of my old bottles of their dark sours and boy is it a doozy! Heavy, heavy, grapey, vinegar-centric acetic acid mixes with dry whiskey and intense berry skin as things turn borderline acetone. Uh oh. No real nuances left here, if there ever were any. Just acid, dark malt and lots of it.
Even more unbearable in the mouth, with brutally sharp, acidic, balsamic vinegar flavor and strong, astringent dark malt with some light wood tannin and malt structure remaining but zero sweetness to attempt to balance (I don’t think this is balance-able). Wow. And here I thought Bruery Quad Tonnellerie was intense and aggressive....
Rememeber kids, don’t age your OEC dark sours!

Bottle shared by ClarkVV. 2015 vintage. Well, some things get better with age. Not this, but some things. Brown color without any head. Very weak carbonation. Aroma is like ever other sour brown I have ever had. Mild oak, lots of vinegar, old cherries.

This style is pretty awful in general. This brew only enforces how I feel about the style. Super strong balsamic vinegar, sour oak, lemon juice and a massive amount of acidic pop. The style itself is harsh. This is light drinking malt vinegar. Malt vinegar might be a better choice actually. Why do Brewers still make this crap? Make a reduction and pour it over your salad. Can’t drink this.

Poured from bottle thanks Clark dark reddish brown thin off white head. Aromas of prune cherry lemon and sour. Taste is wicked sour lemon berry. Make salad dressing with this.

Dark brown reddish orange. This smells insane. sour sour sour. prune, cherry, lemon juice. holy fuck. this is insane. Basically flat raspberry, cherry grape juice. oaky finish with charcoal.
