This deep mahogany red strong ale is a classic example of a winter warmer that’s high in alcohol and rich in taste. An excellent balance of malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness, gives aromas of Christmas cake with hints of black treacle and vine fruits.

500 ml bottle. Transluscent reddish brown color topped by a medium bubbly tan head. Aroma has a complex sweet malt character with hints of chocolate, caramel and raisins. More sweet roasted malt in flavor with notes of brown sugar, dark dried fruit, and spicy hops. This is just what you’d expect from delicious English Old Ale. Has a briny undertone and is rich and balanced with a focus on the malt.

Whole Foods, Bowery 50cl ($5): Pours a dark brown with a small head. Aroma is hops, chocolate, ash, malts, and brown sugar. Taste is lightly sweet and very minimally bitter. Balance is well pulled off. Aftertaste is light. Body is exactly right. This is quite drinkable and quite tasty. I can’t believe I haven’t drank this before.
