This deep mahogany red strong ale is a classic example of a winter warmer that’s high in alcohol and rich in taste. An excellent balance of malty sweetness and hoppy bitterness, gives aromas of Christmas cake with hints of black treacle and vine fruits.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours rich, ruby-brown with a small, foamy tan head. Lovely aroma of light chocolate, semi-dark malts, slight roast and dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor, smooth cocoa malts, mild roast, lightly burnt sugar. Medium bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Sweet finish, some dark chocolate, dark sugars, mild fruit tones, leaves, crispy wholemeal bread, light graham crackers. Very tasty beer. Light enough in body to be highly drinkable, but rich enough to satisfy nicely.

2007 vintage. I enjoyed this at Delilah’s 12th annual Winter Beer Tasting in Chicago, IL. Clear brown, English yeast presence, kind of thin but has a very nice finish.

Poured a dark colour like a deep brown with red highlights. Hardly any carbonation, creating not much of a head and no lacing. The nose was very strong with scents. Some raisins, some plums, some rum and hints of smoke. The taste was also amplified. Started sweet, then road through some bitterness to then end up in some roasted malts. Molasses was also felt somewhere in there. I enjoyed to the very long smoked aftertaste left in the mouth. The mouthfeel was thick, like syrup. Looks like a porter to me. Pretty good and always enjoy their flask-shaped bottles.
