Raison D'Extra's little brother Raison D'Etre was brewed to be the ultimate beer partner for steak. Plump raisins and beet sugars give the beer a similar DNA and color to red wine.
D'Extra takes this concept to the next level. What 120 Minute IPA is to 60 Minute IPA, D'Extra is the D'Etre. We're pushing the limits of what a Belgian yeast can do (and we've discovered that's somewhere in the ballpark of 15% to 18% ABV!)
D'Extra is extremely complex and a great candidate for aging. Sip on one with a loved one now, and stash a few in your beer cellar! As Dogfish Head founder Sam Calagione says, "This puppy's only getting better with age."

Aromatisch süß-würziger Antrunk wobei die Würzigkeit hier mit intensiven und scharfen Hopfennoten den Vorrang hat. Die Süße ist bei diesem Alkoholgehalt unvermeidbar, ist aber passend und eher dezent gehalten. Das Malz wird stärker und fügt sich gut in die allgemeine Würzigkeit ein, die nicht abnimmt. Intensiv würzig auch im Mittelteil, hier ist der Alkohol weniger erkennbar. Im Abgang dagegen etwas schärfer, intensiv malzig-aromatisch, nicht mehr röstig, angenehme Intensität des Malzes. Harmonisch, trotz des Alkoholgehaltes nicht zu krass, ausbalanciert malzig-würzig, selbst die Süße scheint besonders im Abgang in geregelten Bahnen zu laufen. Ein überaus gelungenes Bier! I’ve been sitting on this one for a year or so, crappy monday at work so what the heck its time to crack you open. Pours a deep copper color with reish orange highlights when held to light. Thinnish white head leaves a bit of lacing on the way down. Smells of dark fruits, raisins plums prunes. A bit of alcohol and a touch of phenolic in there as well. Smells like its going to be sweet. Taste is sweet, lots of dark dried fruits and a burning alcohol as it leaves my gullet and descends to the pit of my stomach. I can feel its entire journey, its almost like I’m sipping on some brandy. Mouthfeel is syrupy and sticky, carbonation is present but not overpowering, body is thick. Wow definite sipper in this one. Very flavorful but a touch sweet for my liking.

Pours a cloudy reddish-brown with little to no head, quickly dissipating. Heavy aroma of alcohol, fruit. Flavor is complex with some licorice, an obvious raisin tang, other fruits, and a sweetish caramel. Almost too sweet and the alcohol content is a bit overpowering as well. An interesting beer to try and sip, but not really my thing.

Cloudy brown beer, not much of a head. Rich beer! Sumptuous! Raisans and figs add to rich porty tones. The crisp dry finish has some more port and raisans. Aftertaste of rich raisan fruit cake! Warming afterglow. Lovely!

Bottle from 2002 drank in 2010. Pours a mostly clear, reddish-brown with a modest, off-white head. Strong, sugary aroma with hefty alcohol, raisins, caramel and overall deep malts. Flavor, not surprisingly, is big, sweet and boozy. Plenty of super-ripe fruits, cherries, malts, caramel, brown sugar and spices. Medium to full in body with fine to average carbonation. Lots of warmth in the finish with strong malts, lingering sugar, faint bitterness and lots of dark fruits. Really great beer in wonderful condition.

Been anticipating this for a while now. 12 oz. bottle split with a friend, pours a gorgeous ruby red. Aroma explodes out of the glass, giving off scents of dark fruits (especially raisins), sweet caramel malts, smokiness and sherry. Extremely complex flavours of sweet caramel, raisins/dark fruits, sherry and a remarkably hidden alcohol given the 20% ABV (label on the bottle). Truly a special treat.

2 year old bottle, 350 ml. Vineous aroma of port, dried fruits (raisins, figs), spices, and alcohol. Hot, sweet, fruity flavor, with port and spices. Like raisin gravy. Very alcoholic and hot, with a bitter finish. Interesting, but I must say I was a bit disappointed. Flavors were not well integrated.
