Has been proclaimed CAMRA’s Midland stout of the year repeatedly. Dark malts and roasted barley combine to produce a smouldering “chocolate” flavour followed by a mouth embracing bitterness. It’s really bitter and black.

Cask at GBBF 2006. A pitch black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with light notes of roasted malt as well as chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of roasted malt and bitter dessert chocolate, leading to a dry and very roasted end. The mouthfeel is smooth and very oily.

Cask at GBBF 06. Black with thin beige head. Not really any smoke in evidence, some tar, liquorice and bit of sourness. Oily in mouth. Lasting tarry oily coffee finish. Not my favourite stout, but has some interesting components.
