Our IPA and Stout converge for a really great flavor combination to create a rich and robust black & tan. The assertive hoppy character of our Hoppin to Heaven IPA is perfectly complimented by the intense deep roasted flavor of our BORIS Oatmeal Imperial Stout. Two great tastes that taste even better together.

Good beige-cream head with fine lace over black beer. Very fruity hops’ nose, and a touch of coffee. One short instant of IPA, then roasted stoutflavours rushing in, but the finish has again some typical IPA-features, much more than any American-hopped I.S. Muscat grapes, lytchee in cold coffee; later a bitter-black chocolate streak. Long lasting finish. Medium bodied but quite slick. Retronasal some cigarette ash, drier. Nice mix, very well-balanced.

Bottle from Cracked Kettle, Amsterdam. Shared with Solthez on the ferry to North Shields. This is a wee belter of a beer. Poured a deep dark black with a nice tan head. Nose had an abundance of roasted malt and some great hoppiness. Flavour initially a big hop hit then moseys on into rich roasted malt and lashings of dark chocolate. Dry bitter finish. 2 of my favourite styles amalgamated. Just a hugely enjoyable glag and something I’d love to get my hands on more of. Top class.

Pours dark brown with light brown head. Aromas of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and grapefruit. It tastes like a hoppy stout. Roasty with chocate, coffee, citrus and hoppy bitterness. Medium to full body with above average carbonation and a slick mouthfeel. Very nice.

I really like Black and Tan’s but usually the ones I have had are lower in alcohol and included a bitter and a dry stout, so the idea of an IPA and an imperial stout sounds interesting. Bottle thanks to muckjoe! Pours black with a light tan waterfall leaving a creamy tan head. Strong hop aroma of pine and grass with some roasted malt and chocolate in the mix. Sweet roasted malt and chocolate are cut with a nice hop bitterness that is piney and dry but the chocolate lingers on. Really nice balance and a great brew.

Dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate with raisin and light fruit and cocoa powder. Odd I can almost differentiate the different beers. Chocolate malts come on strong in the flavor. Light fruit, some floral and some molasses. Good but interesting. Still, I’d give it another go.

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a really dark brown body producing a medium-sized tan head. Roasted nice with chocolate and coffee, but I think it overpowers the IPA imprint too much. Still really nice though. Chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee and a nice, citrusy bitterness in the mouth, full-bodied and nicely carbonated. Quite dry. Bitter finish, mostly of the hoppy bitterness type. A bit more on the citrusy side in the aroma and flavor, and this would be world class. 090724
