Cask sampled at ACAT, 2014. Pours hazy yellow, with a small, bubbly, white head. Aromas of bread yeast, caramel, grapefruit, and tangerines. Low bitterness, mellow sweetness, and significant yeast flavors. Light body, smooth, low carbonation. This is a delicious, easy-drinking beer. Nothing special, but just well-made, quaffable, and simple. I could drink several pints of this.

500 ml bottle conditioned, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.2%. Golden colour, slightly hazy when the yeast is poured in, moderate white head. Aroma of hay, mild herbal spices, chocolate and dust, hints of smoke. The flavour has a mild fruity acidity, followed by chocolate, smoke and moderate hops. Apparently they have used some pale chocolate malt and a little smoked malt here. The smoke is probably there to celebrate the Severn Valley Railway. An unusual bitter, but not bad.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a cloudy amber with a thin white head. Weak hoppy aroma leading to a malty yeasty flavour. There is little bitterness but the malty palate is interesting!

Sept 2006 from BA: This beer was brewed for the Severn Valley Railway beer festival. It is named after one of their refurbished steam trains. It became so popular (and the brewery were looking for a summer brew), that it is now to be brewed every summer to replace the winter brew Old Henry (which I will review when it re-appears in October). I have drank this beer in Shrewsbury and at the brewery, enjoying it very much. It is a dark redish brown with a loose creamy head which stays on the side of the glass. At first I thought of burnt caramel and chocolate malt, but it is a coffee aroma which comes through really. Amber malt has been used, not chocolate malt, the headbrewer informs me. Fuggles hops (amongst others) also add to the aroma. This brewery still uses whole hops and mills its own malts, almost all of which is locally sourced. Again the burnt caramel comes to mind in the first mouthful, but coffee overtones soon take over. This is not a sicky, thick, over heavy beer, but its mouthfeel is one of strenght and goodness. Very, very drinkable. I would call it a Bar-B-Q Beer!

Bottle at home with Lyoli. Clearish, light amber pour with a soft, foamy head. Lightly bready malts on the nose, some citric sharpness, mild grass. Flavor is lightly sweet, has some faint caramel and demerera sugar, mild earthy and citric bitterness. Light to medium in body with fine to lively carbonation. Crisp finish, bitterness hits the sides of the tongue, mild sugar and sharp citrus. Nice beer.
