Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port.

A 2013 750ml bottle bought at my local LCBO. Aromas of fig, booze and brown sugar. Pours with a thin minimal head, with a orange darker-brown colour. Rich sweet flavour with a strong hit of booze woith more of the dried fig flavour. Very nice beer, not blow away, but good.

Bottle at Chrisso’s pre-GBBF shindig. Bottle from 2010. Aroma is slight musty feet with green apple. Medium sweet malt. Some meaty yeast. Sweet finish. Nice carbonation . maybe not the best example.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013, 10/08/13. Golden amber with a thin off white head. Nose is dark fruity tang, light soured notes, Belgian yeast esters, light spice. Taste comprises much the same, dark malt, stoned fruits, bread dough, yeast esters, sugars, light toffee. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry finish. Ok affair but not mind blowing.

29.06.2013, 0,35l bottle (2013) @ NY hotel room:
Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly sweet fruity, caramel malts, dried fruits, toffee, nuts, almond essence, grass. Taste is sweet, slightly grassy fruity, caramel malts, grass, alcohol, toffee, dried fruits, citrus peel, dark sugar, butterscotch. Medium bitterness, slightly dry mouthfeel. Fair enough, probably way too young.

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Poured a reddish brown with a thin broken white head. The aroma is yeasty malt and a little caramel. The flavour is medium bitter, malty, yeast and some weak liqourice bitterness in the palate. A decent beer in small quantities, but I don’t understand the high rating.

Refrigerated 12 oz. 2012 brown bottle poured into a tulip. Pours dark amber with small beige head which dissipates quickly. Dark fruit aroma, medium body, low carbonation, and little lacing. Taste is nice long dark fruit (mostly nice raisin some dates) and dark candy sugar. Pretty easy to drink for 8.7%, good beer. 2011 brown bomber in 2013, not as sweet, but not as much flavor as the 2012, two years old and still good. Refrigerated 2009 12 oz. brown bottle with grey wax. Most of the dark fruit taste from this beer have left, however dark fruit aroma is still present. Still better fresher. 2008 over five years old, when cold aroma and taste is light milk chocolate. 2008 as it warms dark candy sugar and alcohol.
