Brewed with loads of malt and Belgian yeast, Pere Jacques is a wonderfully fruity, malty ale. Pere Jacques’ complex flavors stand shoulder to shoulder with the Belgian Dubbels enjoyed in the world’s finest beer bars. At the dining table it’s the perfect alternative to a glass of vintage port.

This pours a medium brown color with a small white head. Scent is mostly that of toasted malts with some sweet, nutty tones and caramel. The taste is rather bold and complex with a lot of flavor to it.

22 oz bomber courtesy of my wife for Christmas. 2012 Vintage. The pour is a hazed amber brown, with a one inch light tan head that falls quickly and noisily. The aroma is soft roast malt, along with Belgian plum fruit yeast. The taste is a sharp sweet malt, then the plum fruit, and finishing with a very Dubbel esque Belgian yeast and clove. Hint of heat, some nutmeg notes in the back. The palate is medium bodied, the fruit yeast leads to a lingering finish. Bonus point for a beer named after the great Pere Jacques Marquette (of course I am assuming that’s who its named after). Thanks for the beer sweetheart.

35,5 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 10.04.2010
Aroma has ripe fruits, some malty notes and raisins. Flavour has ripe fruits, brown sugar, malt, raisins and hints of orange peel. Quite typical dark Belgian strong – and a bit too much on the sweet side.
