0.33l bottle @ Henrik. Quite dark this one, on the border of being black and the bubbly little head that came when pouring it quickly fades away in to near nothing. It catches much back in the aroma. I got the bottle that has been standing on the shelf, so finally I got a beer close to the temperature I like. Yeah, the aroma, its dark and sweet. Lots of roasted malts and it almost smells like it has been barreled on something. Chocolate tones and tons of vanilla. Some hints of burned caramel, and all in all it's quite delicate and nice. It's surprisingly medium-bodied for a 11.5% ABV imp stout. A thin oily texture - something I would call a bit disappointing actually, and the carbonation level is extremely low. Near the border of being and flat. No, wait, it's as good as flat. The taste is quite sweet. Surprisingly sweet in the flavor, and it has lots of dark roasted malts, vanilla, chocolate, thin licorice and some caramel as well. A bit confusing this one. Perhaps a bit to sweet and "dead" for my liking, and normally I quite like the sweet and calm impy stouts. But tasty? Yeah, definitely tasty. 23.02.2012

Bottle on the Eurostar to Brussels as part of my Pre-Wedding Celebrations, thanks to Mr. Bunce. It pours opaque black, with a thin tan head. The nose is very fruity: plum, blackcurrant, blueberry, as well as roasted malt and salted caramel. The taste is plum, raisin, red grape, vinous notes, salted caramel, varnish, molasses and coffee, with a dry, warming finish. Full body and moderate carbonation. Good Stuff.

330 ml bottle @ Patricks. Black body with a lasting, medium sized brown head. Aroma of dark malt, cocoa, coffee and dry fruit. Flavor is sweet, roasted malt, molasses, cocoa, coffee, bitterness and some warming alcohol. Fine body and a good aftertaste. Another Mikkeller IMP stout, the cocoa makes the biggest difference this time.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice huge foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of black chocolate with light lactose notes and some deep roasted malt is quite sublime. Taste is also a great mix between some black chocolate with just enough lactose notes and some roasted malt to make this truly interesting. Body is full with a super nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. I wasn’t expecting much but this is truly wonderful. Mikkeller is becoming the go-to brewery for Imperial Stout.

Black color, with a creamy but not persistent head. The aroma of roasted malts is also mildly cheesy, very nice. It would have a better mouthfeel with less carbonation; the body is not too thick; excellent flavor of chocolate and dark malts, spicy, peppery, with a good share of sugars, and also high alcohol content, everything powerful but balancing each other. Very good.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Blacker than Thatcher’s heart pour with a thick, creamy tan head. Raisins, bonfire toffee, plain chocolate and burnt sugar aromas. Most alluring indeed. Smoky-dry flavours of dark roast coffee and chocolate. Quite sticky. Dry as Jack Dee’s wit finish. I love me Impys and this is up there with the best of ’em!
