Full-flavoured ruby beer combing the best of Scottish barley and English hops, profoundly malty in aroma and flavours but balanced with a raisiny spiciness and toasty dryness. Distinctive fresh, slightly citrus tang with a rich finish.

Cask, half pint, at The Chambers, Gloucester. Brown colour, small off-white head. The aroma has moderate notes of English malt vinegar. The flavour has loads of acidity, with dominant malt vinegar. Clearly "off".

Cask at the Hour Glass, High Wycombe. Poured amber-brown with a thick cream head. Malt and caramel from the off, but they’re not too sweet; leafy hops balance, and some lemon comes through afterwards. Mellow, smooth and easy-drinking. Quite a decent autumn ale, better than the similar Greene King Fireside I’d had just before.
