Pours a deep ruby brown colour with a tight light tan head. Aroma is malt, ripe dark fruit, yeasty and a little smokiness. The alcohol dominates, sweet, syrupy, some malt and fruit present along with a bitterness in the finish but a little rough.

On cask at the Booking Office. Appearance - deep amber with red chinks. Again no head as girl gives me value in beer. Nose - toffee and edging into molasses. Taste - burnt toffee and burnt raisins and bread. Palate - rich and crunchy throughout. Not cloying and slipping down easily for the percentage. Overall - challenging and good. Not sweet enough to be declared a Barley Wine. Should be an English Strong Ale.

On tap at Galbraith’s. Pours dark red brown. Caramel, toffee apple, little bourbon stuff, some vanilla, quite a lot of toast and biscuit. Decent barley wine given the strength.

Handpull cask at the Cambridge Blue.nvery dark brown, translucent. Freshly ground coffee, figgy pudding and brandied fruit in the aroma. Rich, moist, dark. Tastes incredible. It’s sweet, fruity, and deeply pleasurable. It’s not the least bit cloying though due to the brown malt and a well-judged dose of earthy hop. Viscous body. More Christmas pud with a touch of leather in the aftertaste. Great stuff.
