Hazy, pale yellow colour, white head. Aroma of sweets (zuurtjes), yeast, wheat and grain. Light sweet flavour. light bitter touches. Rather sticky mouthfeel, sweet sticky finish with light sour notes.
Not the best beer by Hof Ten Dormaal imho, but interesting as a spelt beer experiment.

Bottle. Amber beer with a whitish head. Yeast and malt aroma with light earth and light spice. Malt and yeast flavor with spice and light citrus. Medium bodied. Malt and earth linger with spice, yeast, and light citrus.

Bottle. Pours cloudy yellow with bone white head. Nose/taste of grains, lemon peel, yeast and dry wood. Lots of grains and barley on the palate with a dry woody finish. Medium body.

Green bottle (lots of pressure behind the cork). Pours with a hazed golden yellow hue with a very massive white head that leaves great lace. Aromas are strongly farmhouse, musty, aggressive phenols, pepper, mild clove, sandalwood, earthy, spicy hops, with light but sharp esters. Smells authentically belgian. Spicy, thistle, hops. Light citric acidity. Flavors show mild malt sweetness, spicy, hops, some tart yeast, nettles, phenols, herbal hop notes, quite dry with mild esters. Chestnuts. Pretty straight forward beer. Very lively bubbles, mildly tart and bone dry.

Pours hazy gold into a tulip. Bright white head with little retention recedes to hug rim leaving spot lacing. Sweet caramel, toast and honey aromas. Crisp with sweet honey and citrus upfront turning to mild earthy resin in the lasting finish.

3oz pour is a hazy, bright gold with zero head. Nose is fruity, grassy, bread, a little banana. Flavor is sugary like a tripel, malty, clearly some specialty grains in the mix, grassy, floral. Medium bodied, sweet finish.

375 c&c from The Davis Beer Shoppe in Davis, CA. Pours hazy gold with a 3 finger creamy off-white head. Aroma is citrus and barnyard. Near med body. Flavor is barnyard, but there’s a fairly prominent unusual flavor that may be the spelt. There’s citrus. I’m getting a fair amount of barnyard in the finish. I think Brouwerij Hof Ten Dormaal has a little historic issue with mild infection - several 750s were extreme gushers - but this bottle was relatively docile. Nice ale.

Rerate 03/2013. Bottle, not infected. As mentioned by another rater, I was contacted by the brewer to have my rating withdrawn. Which I did, but on second thought, I believe that if you know your beer to be infected and still decide to put kegs up for sale at a festival, then this ought to be rated as what was being sold at the time. Until I taste a newer batch, this is my score.
