This Smoked Extra Stout Porter was developed on the occasion of the double anniversary of SNAB. Brown Porter, our very first beer, has been a symbol of SNAB for two decades. With Roock we pay homage to this classic style with an XX version, known since 1820 as Extra Stout Porter to indicate the stronger version. By using smoked barley, USA hops and yeast, a distinctive combination was created that gives a complex beer with a distinct smoke flavor.

Bottle from Speciaal Bier Winkel, Bodegraven, synthetic cork
Dark brown color with generous compact head. Mild smoke aroma, forest wood, light campfire. Dry mouthfeel, with a mix of roasted malt and firewood; correct bitterness, with more roastiness in the end.
Not exceptional.

Bottle at Chriso’s 2012 Pre-GBBF Shindig, London. Pours foggy brown with a dense, tan foam head. Lovely smoked malt nose with subtle ham notes. Great flavor, medium sweet, with smokey malts, some bitter earth, faint tang, charcoal. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Dry smoke to finish with faint notes of dry caramel. Pretty dry overall, in fact. Nice.

21/07 RBESG Grand Tasting, 0.375 l bottle. It poured hazy brown body with medium sized ivory head. Nice, slightly sour peat aroma, a bit of ham and caramel. Flavor was a bit sweet, caramel, raising and chocolate with smoked notes like burning log made of some dry wood. That added to some acidity. Medium in body with shorter, but nice caramel and milder smoked finish. Not what I used to in smoked beers, but I liked it.

The taste is caramel, roasted malt, earth, wood, dark fruit, toast and umami aspect. Touch of alcohol warmth. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent.
