A brazenly hop-forward beast of a beer, with a huge passionfruit nose. A subtle caramel character provides a malt backbone to shoulder the massive amount of dry-hopping that gives this beer its unique aroma and hop flavor. Two 5 Left is the runway that sends planes screaming right over El Segundo. We always knew we would name a beer after this local landmark and when it came to naming our first Double IPA, it fit the bill perfectly.

Bottle at Bruce’s pad, picked up from the Bottle Barn Santa Rosa, 12/05/14. Lightly hazed orange amber with moderate off white spotting, Nose is caramel malt forward, bitter orange, pine, citric peel, grapefruit. Taste comprises caramel malt, pine, sweetish tones, orange pith, grassy vibes, grapefruit, toasted bread. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with an assertive level of hop bitterness. Decent enough DIPA.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to Colin. Hazy gold - amber beer, small pale cream coloured head. Palate is smooth and softish with fine carbonation. Smooth malt, touch of cream. Spicy hops also bringing light fresh orange. Whisper of aniseed alcohol. Smooth semi dry finish.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Colin. Pours clear gold with a frothy, off-white head. The aroma holds ripe citrus, orange, grapefruit; smells good. Medium sweet flavor with moderate bitterness, more ripe citrus, melon, grapefruit, some orange rind. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly resinous on the finish with slight mineral dryness, moderate pith, more grapefruit, generic citrus rind. Pretty decent.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours hazy amber with yellow-white. The nose is pine, varnish, toffee, candied orange peel, mango, apricot and sherbet. The taste is bitter, pine needles, varnish, peppery grapefruit, toffee notes, warming alcohol sting and toasty with a dry, bitter finish. Medium + body and average carbonation. Pretty easy going for what it is. Perhaps a touch sweet, but solid anyhow.

22 oz. bottle, sent from Neillago (thanks a lot, Neil), pours a hazy golden orange with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out loads of resinous hops, pine, and some dry caramel malt. Flavour is uber dry ad hoppy, with loads of dry pine, floral hops, and just enough crackery malt to back. Super dry and refreshing, with a lingering hoppy astringency. Bitter and dry, just how I love my IIPAs. Excellent.

Bottle. Clear amber body. Fizzy, off-white head. Resin hop aroma along with caramel, raw grain, pine, orange. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, soft carbonation. A bit too much of the leafy hops and resin. But the balance is good for a double ipa. Thanks wnoble.

Bottle. Pours clear deep amber with a medium light beige creamy head that leaves nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is a citrus, pine, floral mix, with a note of caramel malt for balance. Faintest whiff of butter after the head is gone Flavor is light plus sweet, quite bitter, with the bitterness attacking up front and actually fading a bit on the finish. Caramel malt notes are present as well, but a lot of the hop aroma nuances are lost in the "bitter" signal to my tastebuds. Mouthfeel is creamy, medium bodied. Pretty nice effort, I just wish that the flavor held a little more hop taste profile and a little less bitter.
