Dark brown color, almost black. Brown Ale, a bit bolder, with some bourbon hints, and light residual sweetness.
Good beer, nothing special.

750mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma brings out notes of intense bourbon, vanilla and a touch of roast. Flavour is dominated by the barrels, with notes of bourbon, oak and vanilla, followed by a touch of roast and cocoa. Pretty soft on the palate with a nice balance. Very good.

Single from the LCBO with a wax-covered cap, leaking-dry on the side of the neck. Pours a real dark brown colour with hardly any red highlights. Beautiful light brown coloured head, great retention and creamy thick lacing. Burnt malt scent with dark fruits (plums, raisins, dates) and notes of coffee, chocolate, nuts and biscuits. Quite smooth mouthfeel with no burning at all and medium-bodied. The taste is milder, as in well-balanced with pretty much all that is found in the nose. Decent hop flavours as well in the finish creating some nice bitterness with the roasted malts in the afteratste. This is quite a good porter with loads of aromas and tastes that goes down nicely. Hope they do this one again at one point.

(750ml bottle from the LCBO) Pours black with a little mahogany around the rim and a big dark head of bubbles that faded without lace. Aroma chocolate malt, toffee, medium roast, leather, blackberry?. Flavour slightly sweetish chocolate malts, roast, lactose sourness, vanilla, smoke, greenish hops. Finishes dry, roast coffee, some hop bitterness, ash, bit of alcohol. Balance between sweetness and ash and hops is good. This is quite full and creamy and silky for a porter, carb slightly heavy but swirled out with ease. This is even better in barrel-aged form, but it is an excellent base beer.

Bottle: Poured a deep pitch-black color porter with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry roasted malt with some clear black chocolate notes and light sweet notes is quite interesting. Taste is dominated by medium-dry roasted malt notes with some black chocolate and light coffee notes. Creamy mouthfeel with full body is really enjoyable with no apparent alcohol. I really enjoyed this beer and something that would be a good candidate for barrel-aging.

A deep dark porter with a thick creamy dark brown head. In aroma, a sweet chocolate and berry cake, nice and sumptuous. In mouth, nice sweet chocolate with espresso coffee, licorice, coffee grinds, very smooth vanilla. A mochacino of a porter. On tap at Sessions 99, June 23, 2012.
