“Doppel” meaning “double,” this style is a bigger and stronger version of the lower-gravity German-style bock beers. Originally made by monks in Munich, the dopplebock beer style is very food-friendly and rich in melanoidins reminiscent of toasted bread. We add our own twist with the addition of our house roasted coffee. A dark brown body with aromas of coffee, malts, caramel sweetness, ending with a bitter finish.

12oz bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a cloudy dark brown with minimal head. Aroma of coffee, caramel and a little dark chocolate. Taste is medium bitter. Mostly coffee with a little xaramel and dark chocolate. Nice beer. Very enjoyable.

Deep amber color that is brown in the center. Real tiny head that left no retention. Good aroma of strong espresso beans. Taste is not what I was hoping after smelling the armoa. Sour coffee and watery caramel malt. The palate is thin in body, smooth but has a strange harshness in the finish. Harsh off flavor bitterness. Coffee brews are some of my all-time favorites. However, I will not revisit this one.

12 oz, enjoyed at cellar temp in a wine glass. Pours a murky plum brown. Nice big head that fades fast Lots of coffee on the nose followed but a disappointing cigarette butt / cigar smoke nose. Taste is pretty disappointing. Tastes like cigarettes, sort of a wheat with a burnt coffee bean finish/

Bottle. Pours clear mahogany with a medium creamy tan head that dissipates with some lacing. Aroma is coffee, ashtray, caramel. Flavor is light sweet, no real bitterness, definitely ashtrays and coffee. Some astringence present. Medium body, bubbly mouthfeel. Good enough.

Total Wine, Fairfax 12oz: Pours a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma is of coffee grounds, roasted malts, but really doesn’t have much of the aroma that is associated with doppelbocks. Taste is slightly sweet. Loads of coffee ground. Kind of like espressoish. Really easy to drink. Quite nice.

12oz bottle...Jan 2012...the pour is a ruddy brown ,like a light cola... with no head
immediate coffee burst but muddled...the aroma is raisin and prune ...dates and figs as well , in the aroma as well as the palate...it’s strange like coffee mixed with prunes, this will make you go! creamy yet effervescent on the palate

Bottle. Earthy coffee malt aroma. Cloudy orange-brown color with small head. Sweet coffee and cream malt and bitter root (like ginseng or chicory) flavor. Nice body. Very tasty.

Clear very ruby and violet tinted brown coloured body with a cola glow and a very thin, oily tan head that fades immediately. Aroma of strong pungent coffee, some roasted malt, pit fruits, apples, a bit of nuts and a ton more coffee at the end. Medium-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavour with a lot of raisins and pit fruits, and an overwhelming amount of coffee that is noticeable immediately and a few minutes after a sip. Aftertaste shows some good flavours with coffee, nuts, coconut, pit fruit and some toffee - very nice and long lasting. Overall, a rather strong and savoury beer with the heavy notes of coffee (as expected) and the deep roasted malt and pit fruit flavour (style). I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 30-July-2010 sampled at home in Washington on 20-November-2012.

Bottle. Earthy coffee malt aroma, like a smooth Sumatran coffee. Dark brown with a small beige head. Sweet caramel, dark fruit, and earthy coffee flavor. Full body. I might have rated the flavor higher, but my coffee preference does not involve sweet. I just can’t stand sweetness in my coffee, and this beer is sweet.
