Triple Bock is complex, elegant, and has the depth and complexity of a fine cognac, vintage port or an old sherry. Non-carbonated, ruby-black, and very special, Triple Bock should be sipped from a small snifter in a two-ounce serving.
This is a beer to savor, and sip slowly. Triple Bock has a brandy-like warmth and a complex melange of fruity, woody, and toffee-like flavors. Let the aroma fill your mouth and nose with rich malt and fruit overtones. Savor and appreciate its enormous character.
Serve Triple Bock as you would a fine sherry, at room temperature, in a small snifter. One bottle generously serves two or three. Recork and store standing up. Once poured into a small glass, the layers of aroma and flavor will continue to evolve as the deep ruby brew warms in the hand. There have been only three vintages produced: 1994, 1995 and 1997.

Thanks to Homerwantsbeer for sharing a 1995 bottle. Around 8 ounces shared among several people and that is the way it needs to be consumed. The beer pours very dark brown with a minimal light beige head that disappears quickly. Some spots of lacing on the glass. Aroma of port wine and burnt malt. Rich and sweet mouthfeel with flavors of port, raisins and dark malts. The finish is like cognac and chocolate liqueur. Overall the beer does not really adhere to any style, and is actually pretty enjoyable in small doses and at a very leisurely pace.

Re-rate 3/17/12: Bottle sample at a Samuel Adams tasting at kerenmk’s place. Thanks beerandbeyond. Really dark brown color. Aroma of lots of dark chocolate, soy sauce and alcohol. Very sweet alcoholic flavor of dark chocolate, some port, dark fruits and soy sauce. Really thick. Hard to drink but really not too bad. 7/3/6/4/13=3.3
Bottle sample at a tasting. 1997 bottle. Dark brown color. Aroma of melted bitter chocolate, lots of alcohol, a bit of soy sauce and a bit of almonds. Very sweet alcoholic flavor with some soy sauce, some chocolatey notes, cookies with nuts, a bit of almonds and lots of alcohol. Oily palate. This beer really confuses me. One moment I get a good chocolatey smell and a moment after I get nasty soy sauce aroma. Not too drinkable, but really not too bad. After all the horror stories I was waiting for something completely unpalatable and that wasn’t the case. 7/4/6/3/13=3.3

1997 bottle courtesy of Alraomon. Thanks, I think. Pours a dark brown color with absolutely no head. Very thick, sticking to the side of the glass. Aroma of salt, soy, raisins, caramel, burned malts, alcohol and chocolate. Taste is all kinds of grotesquely sweet, with some chocolate and dark fruits. Huge alcohol warmth. Full bodied and sticky.

250 mL bottle of the 1997 vintage, found unexpectedly at the Main Street Party Store in Ann Arbor. Pours like soy sauce and smells the same (very strongly I might add), with maybe a little dark fruit or licorice aromas. Very overwhelming aroma that borders on foul, maybe taking a step or two over that border. Nice legs. Flavor is amazingly strong raisin, red wine, and dark chocolate with alcohol that feels about right for the 18%. I’m certainly glad I chose to follow the 2-oz serving recommendation. But for the aroma, this is very fine for what it is.

1997 bottle, found in a store in Berlin. The excitement of tasting this oldie quickly turned in a nasty adventure. Pours a thick oily black liquid with no head, flat. Aroma of bitter chocolate with soy notes, almost like mapple sirup. The aroma quickly engulfed the small room. Taste was a different story. While the first sip reflected a surprise, the rest became very hard to swallow. I never managed to finish the glass. Taste is of soya lightly bitter, but with hidden notes of sweetness. This is a bottle you want to share with 2-3 friends and probably won’t want to drink again. We rinsed the bottle and it was actually a blue bottle. The inside was coated with thick black chunck of the beer that had accumulated on the glass over time.

Genial! Test vom 27.8.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: -,14,12,13,13,13 - 13,00

Big thanks to KAggie97 for the beer. The bottle looks incredible. The beer in the glass is very, very black. Very complex aroma, a little note of coffee and chocolate. Flavor starts almost too strong and alcoholic, goes down like oil. Warming sweet-malty finish. Well done!

1998 Bottle at Sunset Grill. Pours black with no head at all. No carbonation at all either. Strong as hell aroma. Chocolate tastes. Heavy alcohol. Tastes like a hershey’s bar dipped and soaked in liquor. Pretty crazy, but hard to down.
