(Draught at Kulminator, Antwerpen, 19 July 2012) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, raisins, orange and candy sugar. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, orange peel, candy sugar, hints of oak and a mild, spicy bitterness in a finish with a warming glow. Full body, fairly sweet. Soft and well rounded mouthfeel. Quite powerful, but still very well balanced. Very nice beer.

15 cl. draft@Kulminator: clear amber/orange with a red hue, small, nicely lacing tanned head, smell is amazing & frankly better than the taste, very sweet with lots of fruit & candy, sweet white grapes, banana,… & all kinds of candy (mainly pear candy) + lollipops, taste on the other hand has frankly a bit too much booze in it for me with the alcohol burn dominating a bit too much, harsh wood aftertaste, bitter, some fruit, yeast & easters, sweet taste before the alcohol burn, oily body

(Draught at Kulminator as Quadrupel op Eik) The beer poured reddish brown and slightly hazy. Its head was very small and white. Aroma contained malts, alcohol and hint of vanilla. Palate was full bodied and dry with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, hint of wood, milldy vanilla and bitterness. Aftertaste was dry, sweet and mildly bitter. Not so impressive one and definintely too sweet.

Bottled at the Brugge beer festival. I had about 4 classes of this over the two days. This beer stood out from the other 287 beers at the festival. Dark brown burnt orange in colour with a fleeting head. Aroma is a sweet rich bourbon with carmel and toffee. The taste is rich and complex with toffee raisin with the warm bourbon taste lasting on a long while. The taste also has elements of the oak with a woody character. Tasted this side by side with the standard Quadrupel and you can definately tell they are the same beer. The oak aging does add a lot to this beer. This is very good indeed.

Sampled under the moniker Quercus Draught. Very good off-white head over hazy orange-brown beer. Very vinous nose, old oak & wine, brandy even, fruits (apricots?) on alcohol, preserved oranges. Dry, fruity, alcoholic & estery flavours. Very complex with rosewood, and sweet(ish) rosewater. Unfortunately - all proportions taken into account - the flavour fades a bit in the aftertaste, getting just lighter. Still - slick, near-viscous texture. WOW! Lowieke, an absolute hit!

On tap at The Kulminator, Antwerp, Belgium, 20-02-10 Pours hazy amber in colour. Soft and velvety in the mouth, really smooth and the alcohol is so well hidden, Some sweetness and warmth showing through, this is fruity and with oak vanilla coming though its powerful, an iron fist in a velvet glove. On tap at ’t Arendsnest. They had samplers of 3 versions, the 2009, 2004 and the oak aged (this one), a nice tasting experiment. The 2004 resembled the 2009 a lot, being somewhat softer. But this one was completely different from the regular versions. Clear orange/amber with a purple hue, dense off white head. Aroma of vanilla, bourbon, wood, fruits, caramel. Flavour is sweet, fruity, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, some wood, light alcohol, light bitter finish, very soft and smooth. Fullbodied. So much nicer than the regular version...
