650ml from the lcbo, served at room temperature. Murky brown pour, with a big beige head. Earthy, woody aroma, with alot of ripe fruit, with some subtle spices. The wood doesn’t seem to be doing much, juts a slight earthy woodiness. The fruit is subdued, and not as upfront as I expected, some for sweetness, but I like how the spice is subtle. All in all a nice effort, but a touch bland for the style.

A deep dark brown ale with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with light candy sugar, light vanilla, cinnamon, interesting. In mouth, sweet fruity malt with candy sugar, light curacao, dark, plums, pleasant. Bottle at Chuck and April’s Cellar Tasting.

Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a medium size light brown foamy head with good retention but minimal lacing. Aroma of candi sugar with dry plums and light candy ester is quite enticing. Taste is also a nice mix between some candi sugar notes with some candy ester and light dry plums and raisins notes. Cherry wood notes are noticeable and seems to ensure there is no rough edges on this beer. Body is bit light for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Quiet enjoyable beer even though it is not as great as some of the staple of the style.

Tasting at Matt’s
Cloudy dark mahogany color with red shades. Aroma of caramel, walnut, malt. Sweet caramel flavor, a bit of maple syrup, of oak, of nuts, very low bitterness, lightly fudgy, and some alcohol evidence.
Nothing special. Just strong.

Bottle - Cocoa, caramel and dark fruits and a touch of spice. Cloudy copper with a decent beige head. Spicy, light cocoa and some fruity notes. Nice, but would have never guessed quad. Finish has some more fruit.

650mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a dark reddish brown with a small off-white head. Nose brings out the cherry wood upfront, with some faint cinnamon and dark fruits. Flavour is quite nice, with cherries, wood, light cinnamon and dark fruits. Unique flavours for the style, with a finish of light cherries and wood. Doesn't strike me as a quad. Not overly pleasant, but decent.

For some reason this is feeling like it’s more of a Double to me, which really isn’t that much different than a Quad. Maybe it’s because this brew doesn’t quite break the booze double digits (which seems like a mandatory for a Quad to me), the brew’s density, and overall sweetness. But regardless I like it. Really toasty nose, with that Candi coming through as general stickiness. The taste heavy on the roasted malts, a plain sweetness, rather than a more complex molasses or maple, dried fruit, and woodiness. Might have been nice to see it peculate a little longer to eat up some of those sugars and edge up the booze numbers. Overall a good brew. Might grab another before they’re gone.
