Can at hopa. Pours copper with white head. Nose is caramely, bready, malts with low to moderate hoppy presence. Tastewise it' sweet upfront, booze and caramel, dark sugar, and bready malts appear, followed by fruity, somewhat bitter hops that last long in the finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation, decent sipper.

Can from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is malt, caramel, hops, citrus, orange, dried fruits, tropical notes, lightly syrup. Flavour is medium sweet with a fairly bitter hoppy finish. Body is above medium. Nicely hoppy, fruity and malty, tasty stuff. I prefer my Barley Wine hoppy and this is a fine specimen.

Can. Deep brown with a coat of beige head that's soon at the rim. Malty aroma of sticky bread crust, dried fruit. Bittersweet with singed sugars and dried fruit before firm bitterness. Some oxidised notes that nod towards sourness. Enough going on but not trying to be too complicated. Nice.

Can from Deconinck. Hazy dark amber, thin, off-white head. Aroma of date jam, pear syrup, chewing tobacco, candied orange peel, nougat, wet wood, toffee, stewed plum. Taste has (very) sweet date, pear & plum mixed into a syrupy-toffee body, balanced slightly by dried orange peel and herbal, woody notes. Toffee lingers well into the herbal, earthy hoppy finish along wet tobacco, dried fruit & hoppy citrus, before boozy brown rum-like alcohol kicks in. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Really enjoyable Barley Wine with a distinct modern feel.

(Can) Pours murky brown with tiny pale brown head. Aroma of caramel and booze with some earthy and burnt sugar hints. Full bodied, sticky with fine carbonation. Great taste. It’s sweet with a caramel flavour, there’s plenty of booze with a fortified wine character, perhaps tokay. There’s raisins and notes of berries. And there’s some interesting hop bitterness in the finish which also has lingering dried fruit sweetness. Very enjoyable, not pretty to look at, and maybe a touch sweet.

Pours dark brown with a tan head. Dark fruits combine seamlessly with caramel, dark brown sugar. A little hint of tobacco and leather, a good robust barley wine.
