500ml botttle from the lcbo. Jet black with a medium light brown head. Aroma is very very woody, hints of vanilla and dark fruit with alot of toasted malts, but not too charred or burnt, just slightly toasted. Mouth feel is normal for the style, and the carb is good. The finish is very sweet, and the JD barrel really comes through in the end. Notes of bourbon, and wood with some vanilla, the alcohol is well hidden, but man this is sweet, no hops to speak of a good winter sipper.

A deep dark stout with a thin lacing brown head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light molasses, light licorice, pleasing. In mouth, sweet fruity chocolate malt with light licorice notes, light soy notes, alcohol warmth, very nice. On tap at Brother's Beer Bistro.

Bottled. Very dark brown, beige head. Piney nose with some grapefruit. Sweet with full body and rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and pine, resin and black pepper. Low bitterness. Messy.

Brassin 2015...

12/II/17 - 500ml bottle @ Big Polish Diacetyl Tasting, home - BB: n/a (2017-180) Thanks to ElManana for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, creamy beige head, pretty stable, adhesive, leaving quite some lacing in the glass. Aroma: dirty and funky start, sourish / infected, fruity notes, caramel. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: sourish start, alcohol, sweet, pretty roasted, more sour flavours, bit puckering, some coffee. Aftertaste: sweet and sugary, bitter hops, dried fruits, quite some alcohol.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of chocolate malt notes with some light bourbon and some light roasted malt. Taste is a quite nice mix of chocolate malt notes with light roasted malt notes offset by some vanilla and bourbon notes with a smooth finish. Body is full with nice creamy texture and some good carbonation with no warming alcohol. Solid BA stout.

(On tap @ WVRST, Toronto, Jan 6 2016) Pours pitch black with small pale brown head and no lace. Aroma roasted dark malt, brown sugar, molasses, light vanilla, dark chocolate, light coffee, a bit woody. Flavour of unsweetened dark chocolate, a bit of toffee and brown sugar, roasted malts, light ash, wood, vanilla. Finish is light roast bitterness, dusty, malt lingers, a hint of alcohol. Medium bodied, average carb. A decent imperial stout but the barrel doesn’t come through much. Not bad, not exciting either.

2014 edition - brown bottle with silver-grey wax over the tip. Pours a real dark brown colour with very little red highlights. The mocha-coloured head starts off big, but fizzy, so disappears fast enough leaving minimal lacing. Sweet aromas of dark fruits with some cocoa notes, apples and mild alcohol. The taste is quite sweet but with some nice bitterness in the finish to balanced things. Roasted malts, a little syrupy, with some coffee, grass, hints of chocolate and the vanilla-coconut from the bourbon barrels. Alcohol is showing again, but an overall good sipper. Thankfully this is not a 750ml bottle, as would be a little too sweet to have that much.

Bottle - Whisky booze, barrel notes, coconut and rich roasted malts. Jet black with a rich light brown head. Light chocolate and cocoa with lots of whisky notes. Slight booze and sweetness in the finish. Not bad but not enough oomph in the roast.
