A sweet bitterness can be found in this powerful abbey beer. Grimbergen Optimo Bruno is made of high-quality raw materials and has a concentrated full-bodied taste and warm aftertaste. Brewed since 1988 and originally an Easter beer.

Helder roodbruin bier met schuim. Smaak is wat zuurder dan de gemiddelde quadrupel, verder sporen van caramel, rode bes, citroen. Smaak blijkt redelijk lang hangen.

0,33L bottle, BB 10.12.15. Pours clear dark ruby with beige head. The head stays. Aroma is malt, dark fruits, caramel, vinous notes. Flavor is sweet, malt, dark fruits, caramel, red wine like notes, yeast, and some alcohol. Finish is dry bitter with some warming alcohol. Overall: nice brew, but I don’t enjoy it as much as I usually enjoy quads.

Review based on the BJCP2008 guidelines (style 18E). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 10:43 2. AROMA: sweet malty profile with caramel notes. alcohol notes with a bit of solventy character. some esters but faint. APPEARANCE: deep amber color with ruby highlights. translucent. large tanned head with good retention. alcohol derived viscosity with lacing. TASTE: sweet malty profile with some esters reminiscent of dried grapes. strong alcohol presence almost solventy. some caramel notes. low bitterness and a semi-dry finish. no hop flavours. PALATE: medium body with high carbonation. some alcohol warmth noticeable. OVERALL: a belgian strong ale that lacks complexity.

Clear dark amber colour. White foam which disappears quickly. Suggarish aroma with much alcohol. Medium bitterness. Average carbonation. Not quite what I expected. Disappointing.

The heavy Easter Grimbergen, with a bronze colour and off-white, irregular head. Sweet, quite rich aroma, malty, spicy notes, fruity; bit vinous in the mouth, caramelly, sweet fruitiness, mild hoppy finish with warming alcohol. I am not into Grimbergen at all but this is the best of the range I’ve had so far.

33cl squat little bottle that pours with a crystal clear amber body that has copper hues and support a thin tan head of foam that leaves behind some nice lacing. The aroma offers up molasses, raisins, prunes, honey covered raspberries and a dash of black pepper and booze. The taste is similar with rich sweet fruity esters like raisins, prunes, cherries and brown sugar covered sweet cranberries. It gets juicier to midway with sweet cranberry and sweet concentrated plum juice. Behind the juiciness is a thin layer of caramel and molasses. Pretty neat brew that I think will turn pretty darn amazing with a year or two or more on it.

Average and bit simple quadrupel. Too sweet and a bit too flat. Needs more complexity.
