Le Merle is a rustic ale, pale in color, inspired by the rich brewing traditions of the Flanders region. Abundant hops and a Belgian yeast strain contribute exotic aromas of tropical fruit.
For all she has contributed since the brewery’s founding, North Coast Brewing is pleased to honor our Merle, co-founder Mark Ruedrich’s wife, with Le Merle (the Blackbird), a subtle sophisticated Belgian-style Saison beer.

330ml bottle. Pours unclear golden with a medium white head. Aroma of yeasts, barnyard, lemon zest and fruits, nice. Flavour is perfectly balanced between sweetness and bittetness with a nice sourish end. Medium body, medium carbonation. Very good!

(bottle, 35.5cl) Slightly hazy, golden colour with a firm and off-white foamy head of medium size. Fruit-accented aroma, slightly overripe fruits, citrus, oranges, shades of cara-malt and yeasty spice. Moderately sweet and slightly bitter flavour, medium to full bodied with a soft carbonation. Initially moderately sweet (cara-)malty and mildly fruity taste with an elegantly rising hops character, including, herbal-spicy and delicately resiny notes; medium-dry, mildly bitter hoppy and sweet malty finish. 12.V.15

Bottle shared by Joes. Hazy yellow golden color, small off-white head. Aroma is lightly malts, yeasty, sweetish. Tastes about the same: sweetish, yeasty, some malts, a hint of sweet banana and pear with a hint of fruitpeel bitter in the finish. Decent body and carbonation. Ok beer.

On tap at New England Taphouse In a pint glass for 10 bucks Deep golden color with a smallish white head. Earthy rustic but still with a bready malty orange and tropical fruity sweetness. I’d drink it again if the price were better.
