Eight years ago, Matt Phillips gambled with a stack of credit cards. Here and now, we’re celebrating Phillips Eighth Anniversary with this hoppy annu-ale, we’re thinking of this brew as a present to ourselves, but we certainly hope you’ll enjoy the hefty helping of hops as much as we do.

341mL bottle, pours a clear pale golden with a small white head. Aroma smells like feet, with herbal notes and light floral hops. Flavour is better thankfully, with piney hops, herba; notes, and a little feet. Certainly not the most refined IIPA by a long shot, with a lot of that feet-like quality. Not bad, but pretty amateur.

Smelly sweaty hop aroma. It has a lean body, with good malt flavor, and still some hop resins and fruits; old but enjoyable.

Bottle - Vintage - Boozy caramel and barley wine like. Floating stuff in orange with a nice white head. Light caramel and a woody. Definitely past due but still not too bad.

Bottle, thanks Todd! Resiny pine, honey, grass, really pleasant despite the age. Cloudy yellow, low head. Minerally dusty base, light hay, plenty off grass and pine to balance. A bit of autolysis by now, but not severe. Dry body, slightly too light at this point, pleasant sparkly mouthfeel. Dry citric finish. Nice, must have been spectacular fresh.

Hazy golden-amber. Whispy head. Honeyish and lightly floral with fresh, bready malts. Fairly light, with some honey malt on the palate. Dry, hoppy finish. Nice brew.

Bottle: Poured a hazy dirty orangey color ale with a small foamy head with average retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of citrus and grassy hops are dominant. Taste is also dominated by loads of green hops with a grassy feels and some medium citrus notes. Malt is bit shy for the style IMO. Body was quite full with average carbonation and no signs of the alcohol. A notch below some of the best West Coast IIPA but still very enjoyable nonetheless.
