Dan’s personal Reinheitsgebot Pilsner is our 2017 brewery exclusive, Hometown Blonde. Dan rescued heritage barley from the Czech Republic to grow experimentally in America and then had it malted by Briess in Chilton, WI. Czech tradition dictates a decoction mash process followed by six bold hop varieties. Hallertau, Saaz, Saphir, Styrian Golding, Spalt and French Strisselspalt all grace this brew. A long cold lager finally imparts a rare and complex character to our classic pilsner.

Expect to pour an elegant blonde glass of beer, crowned with a rich head of foam that resonates with our chorus of hops. Although delicate in appearance our Wisconsin Hometown Blonde has character - of course!

Purchased at Breeze Thru Wine & Spirits in Milwaukee, WI; enjoyed at home on a Thursday night while doing some work. Appearance is a pale, clear yellow with a very thin white head that slightly rims around the glass. Aroma is slightly sweet, hay, yeast, not bad. Taste is crisp and clean, not unlike other New Glarus brews. It’s one of my least favorite styles, and New Glarus does a decent job with it, but I’d still prefer other NG brews over this one.

12oz bottle. Pale yellow tan body, highly filtered and transparent. Steady thin white head. Classic Pils taste, respectably hopped..a touch flowery, peppery. Straightforward clean malt body. Very well balanced, with a dry finish. Classic noble hop flavors. Really quite well done.

12 oz bottle from iowaherkeye! Nose of grain and light grassy hops; hazy urine yellow with a medium yellow-tinged head; flavor of light hop bitterness, and a bit of grainy yeast! Pretty good pils!

12 oz. bottle. Wafts a nice lager smell after sitting in a glass for a while. Color hits burnished gold of an actual pils, which is always refreshing to see, with a scrum of clotted foam across the top. Drink is hearty with lightly toasted malts, no graininess. After some unsure whiffs in the nose, I find no off-tastes or adjuncts. Tends to a bit of ale fruitiness. Also the nice sharp tang of German noble hops sets in nicely. A darn good American pilsener that I may have liked even better if I had popped this bottle when I bought it in November… darn these beer hunting trips.

Big thanks to jarlbartar for bonusing me this tasty brew. 12oz bottle pours clear golden with white head. The aroma is crisp and lively with mild lemon, hints of hop spice and floral hops as well as sugary pale malts and hints of wheat. As it warms the faint hop aromas grow to more than a murmur. The taste starts sweet and malty and quickly turn into crisp a lemon twang (not all that tart or sour), hop spice and floral hops. Just like in the nose. The hop flavor seems to grow into the finish with a nice lingering floral hop sense and carries into the finish.

Bottle courtesy from Monger: Poured a bright gold yellow color beer with a nice big pure white foamy head with good retention and good lacing. Aroma of floral malt with some dry crisp hops is quite enjoyable. Taste is also dominated by some floral malt with some light sweet notes and a medium dry crisp finish which is quite enjoyable. Body is full for the style with some good carbonation. Another very good beer from a great brewer from a style that produce too much crap IMO.

I’m not as big a fan of this beer as most, it appears. Clear straw body, thin off-white head. Aroma of bready malt, cerealy, with grassy hops. Grassy, herbal body, bitter, with light bready malt. Leafy. Medium-bodied with average complexity. Average and drinkable, but I didn’t find too much to get excited about.

Golden with lots of bubbles but a small head. Aroma of hops. Smooth and dry with no bitterness. A full bodied pilsener
