Tap at Mariano’s, Westchester. Amber Oktoberfest color. The smell is big and malty, but dwindles with the head. The taste has some warming alcohol, a bout of toast and caramel malt. It’s also kind of yeasty, suggesting an unfiltered keg. Caramel roast accounts for some of the sweetness. At least it’s a break from this year’s round of Citra hop monsters.

At Great Taste 2015. Lightly sweet, tons of malt, kind of sweet for the style but on the dry side nonetheless. Alcohol seems a little high, both in the flavor and the aroma, and now that I rate it I see it is too high. They got the appearance right, copper color and a nice white head.

bottle - This dark amber beer has a mild caramel malt aroma with a little alcohol. The flavor is sweet malt with toasted caramel, toffee, and maybe a touch of dark fruit. Dry hopped? I’m not noticing much hops. It’s alright but not as good as a couple of the other Big Eddy releases.

Sample at GABF 10/03/2014, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing. Caramel, malt and hops in the nose. Medium body with a slightly boozy character and notes of caramel, grainy malt and slight hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.
