Sample during the "Collaboration Beers On Deck 2!" event on 08/13/2017. Slightly hazy straw-gold color with a thin white head that dissipates quickly to an outer ring. Short strings of lace. Aroma of smoked malt, wheat and hops. Light-bodied with a mildly smokey character and notes of herbal wheat, fruit and mild hops. The finish is smoked malt and fruit. Decent overall.

Slightly hazy golden coloured body with an almost non-existent white head. Aroma of smoke, grass, yeast, malt, sausage and more smoke - strong! Light-bodied; Strong smoke flavour with bacon and grass in the mix as well. Aftertaste shows a slightly sour note with some lemons and herbs, but the majority of the flavours are the smoked notes which are very pungent, especially for a beer low in ABV and low in malt. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer with a great smoke flavour and a low alcohol and body which makes for good easy drinking with tons of flavour. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Foods in Falls Church, Virginia on 03-May-2014 for US$1,67 sampled at home in Washington on 01-November-2014.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, best before 8/2014. Pours hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a large amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, wood smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/smoke earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with well balanced pale malt, smoke, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, wood smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/smoke earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, apple, wheat, cracker, bread, wood smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/smoke earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and balance of pale malt, smoke, and earthy hop flavors; with good robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth crisp, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.4%. Overall this is a nice and pleasant gratzer style ale. Good complexity, robustness, and balance of pale malt, smoke, and earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Single bottle from Binny’s. Not as strong a beer as I’m in the mood for, but probably need to have this one somewhat fresh. Pale straw color, kick up a nice head like a weizen. Smoked malt right on the nose, just an edge of smoked ham to it. Taste is a fine smoked wheat malt taste that is scratching the back of my throat, but having let it get nice and cold, it’s more of a comfort. Hops offer just a little bit of spice, and I also pick up some lemon or lemongrass.

12oz bottle. Hazy yellow-tan body. Patchy soda-like head. Pleasant mild smoked wheat aroma, hints of lacto. Pretty solid example of the style, medium bodied, very drinkable. Would love to see sixpacks of beers like this. Nice.

12oz bottle pours with a gold body that supports a light tan head. The aroma offers up light smoke, pale malts and a dash of bready and wheat notes. The taste starts with smooth wheat, a bit of floral hops and malty subtle smoke that stays pretty even right into the finish. I like the smokiness as it’s not too subtle in the end and also not too robust (although, I’m fine with robust too). I like it.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a slightly cloudy dark gold with a half finger of white head. Aroma of barley, light smoke and grains. Taste follows aroma. The smoky flavor dominates with a slightly bitter finish. Light bodied with a somewhat thin yet creamy texture. Lively carbonation and a decently long yet very abrupt finish. Overall, pretty good. Does kinda taste like a hotdog but still pretty good.

Pours a hazy gold, looking kind of like a Hefeweizen, but with a rather small, fizzy lace - nose has a nice, rich smokiness to it, that is complimented by the medium sweet wheat tones - there is also a hint of salt, acidity, and some grassy hops - fairly creamy texture in the mouth - flavors of sweet wheat up front, some lemon tanginess to balance - smoke it not as potent as in the nose, but is still fairly pleasant, earthy, woody - finish is mildly peppery, with a moderate, drying mineral character - a fairly subtle and nuanced take on the style - I can see how some might not like it, as it is not the smack to the palate that some other takes on the style present, but I quite like it.

12oz bottle from Wegman’s, Buffalo, NY. A slightly hazy pale straw colour with a thin white head; gentle smokey aroma; more assertive smoke in the mouth with a grainy body; and some spice to finish with lingering dry smoke. A bit too much smoke for me, but certainly different.
