75cl bottle shared at Tilquin taproom. Merci Pierre.

On tap at Moeder Lambic Fontainas, pours a cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of the green figs, with some green peppers, barnyard funk, and leather. Flavour is quite green, with green figs, moderate bitterness, some herbal green pepper, and ample barnyard funk. Really nice use of the figs. It tastes like an extra funky and herbal gueuze. Excellent.

The fig version in this second series of experimental fruit lambics by Tilquin – and literally the first fig lambic I encounter, even including non-traditional, sweetened fruit lambics. Snow white, open, mousy ring of bubbles on top of a hazy yellow-straw blonde beer. Quite unique and weird, yet not unpleasant aroma, reminding me at first of – bizarrely – the crust on a piece of pan-fried plaice, after which more lambic-y aromas appeared, old straw, damp hay, apple peel, old dry sherry but hardly any fig (neither fresh nor dried). Sour onset, sour apple, unripe plum but hidden within, indeed a certain fig-like sweetishness lurks; soft carb, supple wheaty-bready core underneath strong lemony and lactic sourness, with Bretty notes of dust and damp hay in the end. Smells more like fried fish than fig, I would never have picked the fruit out of this one hadn’t I known which one was in it. Weird, but – contrary perhaps to the equally exotic mango version – still very enjoyable.

Tap at ML Fontainas. Hazy golden with white head. Lots of funk up front with dry cellar but also dank barnyard, soft lemon, light fresh fig, sour wheat, oak, grapefruit, light mineral. Over medium sour, light sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with sparkly carbonation. Nice, but quite sour and the figs are quite light, could have fooled me saying it has some citrus in there.
