Bottle 500ml @ yngwie Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, licorice, clove, chocolate and dried fruits. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a long warm roasted, licorice, clove and chocolate finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Poured from 500mL bottle (pkg 02-05-09… oops is this way too old?). Anyway, near black with small tan head and lots of sediment. Fairly mild chocolate malt with lots of spices - cardamom, licorice, nutmeg, allspice, hint of cinnamon and Ginger. Not bad.

Drucken på fat på Bishop Arms Gustav, Malmö. Stor kropp, massor av choklad, lakrits, mörk malt inlindad i tropiskt fruktig humle och kryddor. Blir som en snygg pralin. Mycket gott

By Klobb på B&B 01.11.

Shared bottle at home. Pours black with brown head. Aroma of cardamom, dark chocolate, liquorice, some fruity notes. Tastes slightly sweet with balancing bitterness. Full bodied, smooth mouthfeel. A very complex and well balanced beer where all the ingredients perfectly melt together.

Well stored bottle 2019 edition sampled November 2020. Pitch black body under a small, dense beige head. Nice and strong aroma of dark malt, and tropical spices like licorices, vanilla and cardamom (also known as Christmas spices in some countries). There is also a distinct aroma of warming alcohol. Taste is smooth and medium sweet with the same spices as found in aroma, in particular licorices. The bitterness feels moderate, but gives a fine balance for the sweet malt and everything rounds up nicely with a smooth warming alcoholic aftertaste. A very solid, delicious and tasty beer with a twist on the Christmas spices, but still there is a lot of Christmas for me here. Even if the recipe has been adjusted from 2019 to 2020 the basis is the same and it really deserves a year or so in the cellar to smoothen out the edges if your pallets are sensitive for the more robust flavors in a fresh version.
