English Pale malts coupled with Challenger and Goldings hops provide the bitterness and aroma. The result is a highly distinctive light, golden ale, with caramel aromas, a pleasing toffee apple flavour and a late bitterness.

January 2022: 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Deep golden colour, moderate white head. Very moderate aroma, weak notes of hops and grain, hints of toffee and biscuits. The flavour has decent hops on a slightly sweet base of moderate malts, with a hint of caramel. Distinct hoppy bitterness in the finish and aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but far from the best offering from St. Peter’s.

Bottle at Kessingland chalet picked up from Morrisons. A clear caramel orange coloured pour with a lasting fine off white head. Aroma is agricultural, sweaty grass, sileage, damp hay pinch of salt. Palate is semi sweet, light grains, mellow carbonation. Flavour is composed of rustic grains, hay, sileage, grassy hop, firm bitterness. Nice rustic golden ale.

Old rating - I'm fairly sure this 500ml bottle of Gatekeeper is the same as the Golden Ale which I had more than 10 years ago, both from Waitrose. A decent enough golden ale with caramel & sweet malts.
