This 8% abv stout has long been a secret pleasure among beer connoisseurs and indeed our Brewers, who value the mouth watering intensity of its roasted malt, smoked wood and dark chocolate notes, not to mention it's excellent and seemingly endless finish. Since 1944 we have been exclusively exporting this same special stout from Ireland into Belgium through the vibrant port of Antwerp. This is the first time we're making it available for general release in America.

11.2oz bottle as Antwerpen Stout. Brown-black body. Off-white/beige head. Rather fruity, raisin tones. Full bodied, really reminds me on an island stout. Not really much finesse, I would hope this actually isn't what is on the low countries market, and was brewed gimmickly for the US market. Too sugary. Not that impressive.

330ml bottle as Antwerpen Stout. Pours black with a large beige head. Aroma of dried fruits, liquorice, roasted malts, oak, hint of chocolate. Taste of dried fruits, liqourice, roasted malts, chocolate, sweet and fruity with a roasty bitterness, hint of oak throughout. Medium bodied, soft carbonation. Nice, probably the best beer I've had from Guinness actually.

Would be perfect on a rainy fall day with a book.

330ml bottle of Antwerpen Stout, from Tesco, Warfield. An opaque mahogany coloured pour with an amber glint and a loose beige head; rich aroma of mollasses with a touch of spice; taste of burnt sugar with some coffee and licorice; and a cinder toffee finish. rather good.

330ml Antwerpen from Tesco - Solid black body, thick tan head. Looks great. Nose is burnt grains and nuts, lots of coffee grinds, bit of smoke and liquorice. Taste is fine, not as powerful as expected, a little muted version of all the aroma notes. Good mouthfeel though, big and syrupy. ABV well masked.

Bottle at home picked up from Tesco. As "Guinness Antwerpen". Surprised i hadn’t ticked this before. A dark caramel brown coloured pour with a rocky mid tan head that fades. Aroma holds some sweet malt loaf, blackberry, jam, vanilla. Little meaty on the nose. Flavour is composed of sweet tangy brown malts, brown sugars liquorice and treacle, apple and dark berries, earth. Palate is medium bodied, frothy carbonation medium sweet with a tang in the finish. Archetypal for the style.

Ok, but tastes just like a stronger version of the usual Guinness.

Bottle from Tesco (1944 Antwerp Stout). Black body with a medium beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of flat Coca-Cola and dirt. Flavour of red berries, roasted malt and nuts. Medium body with a smooth, frothy texture. Soft fizz. A solid beer.
