This traditional IPA has fresh aromas of white flowers and citrus with a clean, bitter hop flavour. This classic India Pale Ale is made in Burton-upon-Trent, the home of British brewing. The recipe uses Fuggles, Goldings and Cascade hops and yeast from the Burton Union System, only used by the Marston's Brewery in Burton. The famous Burton water is also used in the brewing process which helps give the ale its distinctive flavour.

Pre-dinner bottle at a friends house where we had been invited for Sunday lunch. A true English IPA with lots of bitter hops, nicely balanced malt and pleasant mouthfeel. The alcohol was well masked and the abv took me by surprise when I had a closer look at the label. This was my sort of beer and could encourage me to visit Sainsbury's to explore the rest of their own label range.

Flaske delt med Willy på brygga: klar gylden med fint skum som varer. Innbydende, floral og fruktig aroma og smak med citrus, blomster og karamell i en elegant balansert maltkropp. Lang, ren og god ettersmak. Superlettdrikkelig.

Bottle from global retailer. Appearance - bright copper with a nice fluffy head. Nose - dirty yeast and sulphur note. Light toffee breaking through. Taste - toffee and biscuits. Palate - light to medium bodied with a crunchy texture and a dry astringent finish. Overall - can’t say this is a great example of the style. More like a badly executed bitter.

Poured from 500ml bottle, clear amber with a thin white head. Big peppery hoppy aroma. Lacks body, watery with metallic taste. Bitter finish. Disappointing.

Bottle at home shared with Sarah. Orange / light amber coloured pour with a big fading loose off white head. Aroma is nutty malts, mineral, caramel, berry / grassy hop. Flavour is composed of light caramel, little diacetyl, rough grassy hop matter, sweet grains. A bit stale and some brown sugars. Palate is sweet, moderate carbonation. Dull beer.

50cl Bottle, thanks Robert&Peta! Clear deep golden colour, white head. Aroma of grain, toast, tiny hint of perfumey citrus. Flavour is light floral, grainy, malty, toast, caramel, light citrus, grassy bitter finish. Light bodied. It’s alright.

500ml bottle at home. Pours clear gold, no real head. Aromas are light floral, light caramel. Taste has a touch of Burton bite, but very light. Surprisingly thin too. Ok.
