Amber beer matured in oak bourbon barrels for 9 months. Scent vanilla, alcohol, spicy. Taste caramel, bourbon, vanilla, a hint of almond. Aftertaste: alcoholic, tones of wood, smoothly bitter.

Dark amber colour, white foam. Sweet vanilla nose along with roasted malts, typical dirty Huyghe aroma. Taste is sweet, lots of bourbon, some banana, medicinal. Drain pour.

Draft. An amber beer with a lazing beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of fruit, caramel, malt, and straw, leading to a dry finish.

Tap at Cap Tap. Pours clear, but so dark brn/blk the clarity requires a strong light behind the beer. Tan head. Aroma of slightly musty wood, dark malt and heat. Deep inhale gets a little chocolate. Approaching full bodied. It’s not very dry, but not sweet enough to be distasteful. There’s dark, slightly burnt, malt. Some medium dark fruit and chocolate. Upon reflection there’s bourbon in the mix. Seems thinner with time. It’s a very tasty thing - not really to be compared with stouts - actually should be listed as IS at the ABV. Still, I wouldn’t object to it being Belgian Strong Ale - Dark.

Bourbon. Some florals and some sweet tobacco. Not a lot of body here, or complexity. Pours dark brown. Boozy sweet end. Tap at Max's.

75cl bottle from Chez Sophie. Pours hazed deep dark brown with beige head. Aroma has strong bourbon, oaky dark malt, good Belgian dark ale caramel sweetness. Taste is pretty much as expected, an excellent blending of Nocturnum and Noel, both excellent beers, with the vanilla and caramel notes boosted by the prominent bourbon presence. A delight to drink.

18 November 2019. At Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, Ghent. Cheers to Carl! Pours hazy dark brown with a lasting, small, foamy, tan head; some lacing. Aroma of liquorice, caramel, red apple, liqueur-soaked raisin, candied date, brown rum, rainwater. Taste is medium to heavy malty sweet, notes of caramel, candied fruit & red apple up-front, vaguely banana-like, spicy edge of liquorice, somewhat bready with a whiff of toast. Malty finish, more sugary, with lingering sweet & spicy liquorice & strong warming alcohol, combinging sugary brown rum & woody ('BA') bourbon. Medium body, syrupy texture, fizzy carbonation. I don't know what the denominator Extra Stout is doing here: this is Belgian Strong Dark with a 'crafty' attempt at BA but alas, Huyghe couldn't escape the known pitfall of delivering a boozy, sugary interpretation.
