This recipe is a true craft ale brewed with only water, yeast, hops and malted barley, in keeping with the Bavarian Purity Law of 1516. We have designed it with a vibrant golden amber hue and a refreshing body. The mild addition of Kent Golding hops balances the generous amounts of caramel malts to give it a malty rather than a bitter finish. A special strain of California Ale Yeast gives the brew a slight hint of fruity aroma.

Bottle from a mix 8 pack. Says that it was bottled in late December (week 4) of 2009, so I don’t think it is retired. Pours with a hazed golden body with minimum white head. Aroma of earthy and a bit bitter. Slight spicy hop, and a similar lactic quality to the one found in Guinness of all things. Taste is slightly fruity, lightly lactic, grainy and watery. A bit of pitted fruit. Not much going on. Medium bubbles. Dryish finish with a touch of sourness.

12 oz bottle purchased at Metcalf Discount on 91st Street in Overland Park, KS. March WK4 notched on the bottle label. Pour is clear golden with a bunch of carbonation bubbles and a nice 2 inch off white head. Aroma is a bit corny, some earthiness below that. Taste has some sharp sweetness to it. Ripe pear, maybe? Below that initial taste is the corn. This tasted quite a bit like a macro lager to me. A decently smooth and made macro, granted, but still a little rough. Palate was thin to medium and made my tongue tingle a bit. Clean after taste.

Dark golden. Somewhat bland, vaguely appley nose with light caramel. More or less the same on the palate. Slightly watery in the finish. Definitely not a beer for guys like me.

Bottle from a sampler pack from Whole Foods in Charlottesville. Pours a very pale golden color with a medium sized effervescent head. Sharp, metallic aroma, from the hops maybe? Taste is exactly the same. Thin. A little skunky. Forgettable.

Slightly hazy orange tinted golden coloured body with a nice white head and a few bubbles rising from the bottom. Very nice, albeit not what I expect from a mild. Aroma of fresh hops, bread, yeast, wheat, coriander seed, bananas and grass - very interesting but not bad at all. Medium-bodied; Very mild malty flavour up front with some fresh hops and a grassy overture. Aftertaste is light and subtle - some sugars and some malt, but nothing else huge. Overall, a good beer with very mild tastes - not horrible for spring and summer drinking! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Tampa, Florida on 25-February-2008.

Fresh aroma of light malt and hop. Darkish gold color with a white head that leaves tatters of lace. Near medium in body with firm carbonation. The flavor is light malt and floral hop. The bitter is enough to balance the malt, but it is not strongly bitter. The finish is crisp and balanced. Drinks very well. Delightful.

As described, this is pretty mild for an ale. First smell is off like pond water but it clears to something more friendly and sweet, perhaps some floral hops. Lovely yellow hazy swirling pour from gunk on bottom of bottle. Creamy foamy girdle around the inside of the glass. Decent carbonation. Initially slight bitter then becomes more amicable. Overall, not bad, though the finish has a mild hop medicine feel. Mild ales are much more palatable than other insulting ale styles.

12 oz bottle from Lakefront Sampler from Bottle Barn; Nose is like lemon hay with some light spices and a background vanilla note thrown in; hazy yellow orange with a small yellow head; flavor of grain, french bread, caramel sweetness, and citrusy spices.
