Created by Ken Smith, Colorado. Ken describes his brew as having "a refreshing light taste and cereal crispness from the wheat malt." This unfiltered ale has a rich, fresh fruitiness balanced by a citrus note from the Noble hops.

Bottle. Kind of a dingy straw color with a bit of an amber tone. Two finger frothy head. Aromas are strong of berries... almost smells like some fancy soap or something. Flavor is about what you would expect. Nothing great, fairly interesting mix of fruit and beer, but I don’t really care for another one.

Slightly clouded...pale golden and fluffy headed...ive never smelled or tasted a boysenberry to my knowledge so, ..what i’m smelling now is very close to blueberry.. very crisp and refreshing flavor...nothing very complex but well balanced ...reminds me of a muffin...very tasty

Chalky, purple-maroon-amber body is dark, unfiltered, and showing a medium clarity. Large, violet-tinged off-white head is large and fluffy, providing tons of lace and being retained nicely.
Tart, sharp, moderately acidic fruit notes in the nose are backed by medium-sweet vanillin notes (wheat I guess) and a dry black pepper and clove dose of phenols. Light pale malt sweetness sort of, but not really, develops in the nose. A bit of chalkiness from the fruit fermentation. Medium to medium-high strength of aroma, light alcohol noted, unfortunately.
Tastes like drinking the leftover milk in a bowl of fruit loops, but with a dose of acidity. The fruitiness is covering flaws and again this seems very underconditioned. Some wheat nuttiness is full on the palate, and that’s pretty pleasant, but the fruit flavor and acidity is unsettling. Similar carbonation issues as the dortmunder (too loose).
Sam Adams beers are always so much fun to drink and rate as they are always so transparent (and always have basic, easily identifiable flaws).

Pour is a hazy yellow with a big white head. Aroma is deffinatly berry and not much else. Flavor is almost a artificial berry with some sugar added. Finish is sweet and fizzy. Not really a good wheat or fruit beer.

Cloudy apricot pulp body, medium off-white head with abundant lacing. Potent, sharp boysenberry aroma, quite appetizing, but I don’t have any pancakes at hand. Very surprising body; I expected a sharp tartness after smelling this a few times, but it presents with bitter fruitskin that complements, instead of overwhelms, the cerealy wheat and grassy hops. Creamy, soft mouthfeel. Count me as pleasantly surprised.

This is a solid fruit beer. Sour fruit aroma. Cloudy orange color, actually a unique appearance and unusually good-looking for a Sam Adams beer. Flavor is more sour than sweet, but there is ample sugar.

Bottle. Pours cloudy golden with a very large white head. ons and tons of berry in the nose- smells like real berry and not candy. Flavors of berry up front, followed by a dirty earth flavor which kills the whole thing for me. Not bad, but it does have a strange ending.

12 oz bottle poured into a Duvel glass. Pours cloudy, murky yellow, almost a sandy yellow with dispropotionate light passing through. Cannot see through the beer but plenty of light in there. A small white head that quickly fades into a small bubbly lacing. Aroma is of course full of sweet berry (I have no idea what Boysenberry smells). An above average berry aroma for what seems to be a standard for uncreative breweries nowadays. But the nice aspects come after you get passed the seemingly fake sweetness. There is a nice grainy sweet cereal aroma. A hefty aroma not that of your regular flimsy nose of most berry-wheats. That grainy sweet cereal comes through in the taste as well aong with the sweetness. A little lemon zing comes in at the end of the flavor with just a hint of bitterness. A much lighter flavor profile than the nose gives off. A nice florall-cereal-lemon taste all around. A fuller body than most berry-wheats but a very quaffable. Nice job Ken Smith, Colorado can boast another good brewer.
