Lemon, biscuit malt, and fresh hay aroma. Golden yellow with giant white head. Lightly sweet lemon, biscuit malt, and mildly bitter fresh hay flavor. Okay body. Not too bad.

[12oz bottle from Total Wines, Brea, CA.] A straw coloured pour with a tight white head; biscuity grain aroma with some lemon oil in the background; lager shandy taste with a touch of quinine-like bitterness; and a sour lemony finish. Strange - could be dismissed as a shandy/radler, but actually there seems to be more too it, the lemon seems real rather than synthetic.

3 month old can A: Foam gusher so poured gently to still a huge lasting head. CLear actively carbonated pale gold body. Lots of lace from the out of control head. S: Nice toasty bread with subtle lemon. T: Dry cracker malt with a little bitter herbal hops. Lemon comes through as more zest and pith than juice or pulp. M: Fairly light, well carbonated and dry. O: Nothing to seek out but tastefully done and enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle, 6/9/19. Isn't this kinda cheating a little? Throwing lemon into a beer style already known for its lemony hop profile? Clear gold, thin fizzy white head, good retention. Aroma of pale bready malt, lemon. Taste is lemon, pale malt. Thin, high carbonation.

Screw top bottle purchased in Austin, TX. Pours a clear pale gold color with a small white head and decent retention. Fair lacing. Lemony, grainy aroma. Sweet grainy lager and lemon flavor with a light hops presence. Light crispness. Smooth, clean and refreshing. Repeatable.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear gold with a foamy white head. Slightly bready aroma. Not getting much lemon thru the head. Med minus body. Flavor is bready with a mild lemon hint. Not really dry; not really sweet. With perseverance it justifies the word lemon; barely. Lake beer; food wash. Not tasty for me.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, best before 10/7/2019. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, lime, citrus peel/zest, peach, melon, mint, dill, green tea, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops, lemons, and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, lime, citrus peel/zest, peach, melon, mint, dill, green tea, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, lime, citrus peel/rind, peach, melon, mint, dill, green tea, pine, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, lemons, and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no astringent hop flavors after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no yeasty notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is a delicious flavored German pilsner. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, lemons, and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink with the modestly bitter/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great balance of vibrant/dank/earthy Lemondrop hops, and meyer lemons; with a great clean pils malt backbone. No residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on style example.

Well, hell. Totally wasn't expecting to dig this beer, but, what can I say? Shiner's actually made an interesting pint, a grassy, grainy pils accented by a barely-there lemon tartness and a pronounced hoppy bitterness on the back end. Creamy texture makes for easy drinking, and the light straw pour looks leagues better than the usually fizzy Shiner fare. Holy hell. I like a Shiner beer.
