This beer pours a deep mahogany with a dense tan head. Aromas of coconut and chocolate are followed by subtle notes of vanilla, caramel, and spice, with hints of oak and bourbon. Barrel aging tames the assertive spicing and leads to delightful drinkability.

Pours murky mahogany into a trappist glass. Mocha head with excellent retention recedes to coat surface. Sweet fig, date and vanilla aromas. Sweet with bourbon and vanilla upfront warming to fig, date and raisin before returning to a medium length bourbon burn finish.

Bottle - rich fig, caramel, raisin, anise, cardamom flavors - synthesized and blended together by vanilla bourbon oak smoothness - sweet, but not overly so, with a light tartness and acidity in the tail end to balance - finishes spicy, with a moderate alcohol warmth - quite good.

12 oz bottle. Pours s very dark mahogany with light head. Aromas of candi sugar, toffee, raisins and sweet toasted malts. Flavors of bread crust, toasted malts, dry caramel, raisins, spice and hot bourbon. Nice but a bit off balance.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a Trappist glass. Medium brown with big beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, medium body, medium/well carbonation, and good small-bubble lacing. Taste is dark fruit, bourbon, oak, and some booze.

12 ounce bottle. Garnet color. Frothy beige head is scattered and clinging. Earthy malt and oak in nose. Flavor is sweet toasted malt, candy corn, oak chips and Alden's cough drops. Quite impressive. Big warming alcohol notes. This brew is exceptional.

Sampled from a bottle this beer poured a reddish brown color with a large creamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet cherry, berry, wood and bourbon. The flavor was sweet with cherry, berry, toffee, bread and whiskey. Very long finish of cherry and whiskey. Moderately full bodied and smooth.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass; bottled on 9/20/2018, best before 2023. Pours fairly hazy/cloudy deep ruby reddish orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, berries, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, citrus peel, coriander, peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and brown bread/crust; with light notes of banana, bubblegum, cocoa, molasses, licorice, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Very slight booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, dark/bready malts, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big raisin, plum, cherry, fig, date, berries, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, citrus peel, coriander, peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and brown bread/crust; with light notes of banana, bubblegum, cocoa, molasses, licorice, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and peppery yeast/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark fruit, cherry, berries, peach, pear, apricot, melon, red apple, citrus peel, coriander, peppercorn, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, brown bread/crust, light cocoa/molasses/licorice, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, dark/bready malts, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and no cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness and oak tannins. Medium-plus carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, and lightly sticky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild warmth of 11%, with no barrel booze lingering after the finish. Overall this is an amazing barrel aged Belgian strong dark ale! All around incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, spices, dark/bready malts, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/spicy/drying finish. Well attenuated and not overly sweet/heavy for the ABV. very rich and complex; with perfect balance of Belgian yeast, spices, malts, and bourbon barrel presence/integration. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing spot on style example as expected. The barrels really improved, balanced, and softened the base beer complexity from what I remember.

Sample at Beer Meets Wood on 09/23/2017. Brownish-mahogany color with a medium light beige head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Small patches of lace. Bourbon, malt and dark fruit aroma. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, caramel malt and dark fruit. The finish is mildly boozy with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer overall.
