25 September 2018. At Dok Brewing Company, Ghent. Cheers to Anke & Pieter!
Pours hazy ochre with a lasting, small, frothy, off-white head; irregular lacing. Strong aroma of unripe passionfruit & mandarin, mango peel, grapefruit, yellow apple, pear, lemon zest, yeast, faint sourdough or cheese even, resin. It tastes medium hoppy bitter, quite grassy with orange peel & pine, and light fruity sweet, unripe exotic fruit; sourish lemon & yeasty in the back. Dry, piney & floral hoppy finish, lingering bitter fruit peel, a bit yeasty. Medium body, creamy texture, fizzy carbonation. Old school indeed, this is a very well-made but not very accessible IPA.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 01/2019. Light gusher. Boasting 250 ibu, if that plata even exists?

Deliberately old school (West Coast style) DIPA, from tap at Dok Brewing Company in Ghent. Cobweb-lacing, snow white, creamy, stable, moussy head over a hazy peach blonde beer with deep amberish (almost ochre-ish) hue. Aroma of fresh grapefruit peel, orange juice, onion soup, lots of wormwood, pine resin, rainwater, green olives, stewing shallots, pink peppercorns. Cleanly fruity onset, unripe mango, hard peach and green banana, sweetish with citrusy hints early on, fizzy carbonation adding minerally effects, thick but very supple, oily mouthfeel. Bread crust- and old biscuit-like malt body supports a long, powerfully bitter hop finish, very grapefruity and peppery, long-lasting, with dank oniony and piney notes retronasally; warming, gin-like alcohol accentuates its peppery character. Delivers exactly what it promises and I love it - I wonder if this whole NEIPA hype could prompt a return to the old familiar West Coast style in the IPA world?

Thank you for sharing RB People! Sampled draft @ ZBF 2018. Hazy orange, creamy white head. Nose is awesome massive harsh pine resin, oily, low peach. Harsh old school raw pine resin taste, the kind that you do not really get anymore, faint caramel, raw plastic, mainly harsh pine, grapefruit peel, thick creamy, low oily body. Too bad almost no one makes IPA’s like this anymore. At least this was not another sweet pastry & smoothie IPA :)
