We start in the brewhouse with our radically traditional recipe for Anchor Porter, which we've been brewing since 1972. We end up in the cellar, where we add Four Barrel Flash-Chilled Coffee -- developed with Anchor especially for this beer -- during secondary fermentation. The coffee used is brewed hot, then flash-chilled within 10 seconds. This proprietary method ensures the vital aromatics and key acids of a great cup of coffee are captured and preserved. The result is a rich, smooth Porter with a roasty malt backbone, a bold coffee aroma and complex layers of chocolate, nuts and spices.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Black with rich beige head. Intense espresso aroma with licorice, earth and red berries. Mid sweet with medium-full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Dark chocolate and quality espresso, peppery with some berries. Mid bitter finish. Very solidly crafted, as expected from Anchor.

355 ml bottle from BeerLovers, bb 12-2019.
Dark brown body, with a medium, creamy, lacing, dark beige head.
Aroma of smooth coffee, the familiar banana-chocolate-cake aroma of their regular Porter, nuts, cocoa powder, dark fruits.
Tastes similar, while a bit simple, with the coffee a bit too much in the foreground.
Medium, a bit creamy mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation.
Finishes roasty, a bit dry, wooden, with dominant ashy coffee, cocoa powder, subtle chocolate.

Nice one, while I was expecting more. The base beer doesn't really benefit from the coffee in my opinion, the smooth creaminess, I like their regular Porter for, is a bit lost here. Only the nose has both elements in a good balance, the taste and especially the finish is pretty much all about the coffee. Solid enough stuff, but I definitely prefer their classic Porter.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Black with a small tan head. Rather mild with coffee, roasted malt, light notes of milk and some dark fruit. The mouthfeel was kind of smooth.

Bottle, 0.355l. Black pour, one finger creamy beige head. Long lasting, very good retention. Thick lacing on the glass. Caramel malts and coffee on the nose, slightly roasted. Thin to medium body. Soft carbonation, crramy mouthfeel. Really smooth on the palate. Roasty bittersweet taste. Aroma of coffee and cappuccino, milk, caramel, brown sugar. Interesting herbal liquory aroma in the background. Sticky. Medium lasting finish, slightly bitter, dry and boozy. Nice cappuccino aftertaste. Overall, tasty brew. Rich and nicely balanced. Lacking in body a bit but otherwise very good.

Always love a new Anchor beer. Pours a pitch black color with a medium to large tan head. A light roast and coffee nose. Sweet mocha coffee, light roast, metallic, smooth. Enjoyable. Tastes lighter than 6.7%. Solid beer. I prefer coffee beers be dialed back a bit in the coffee and this hits the spot.
