Non Beer Trip Beer Trip #98. 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Ann Arbor Eisenhower. Clear pale golden, large foamy off-white head. Good retention. Aroma of strong catty, resiny Simcoe hops, lemon, pale malt. The taste is herbal, resin, catty, piney hops, pale malt, lemon juice, dandelion. Medium bodied, lingering bitterness, complex. Nice beer.

Bottle thanks to Russell. Pours a hazy gold with small white head that lasts. The aroma is grass and skunk. Medium mouth, grass, spruce, wheat, light bitter finish, good.

Bottle. Light golden body with frothy white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, pine. Hint of biscuit and caramel. The flavor is lightly to moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. Thin to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Hop taste of grapefruit and citrus with some grass. Aroma was bold enough, but the thinner body (not surprising in a session ipa) was a bit of a weak backbone for the hop flavors.

Crystal clear coloured golden body with a thin, one centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of bright herbal and slightly sweet hops with a light hay and yeast note and some smells of honey and flowers. Light-bodied; Assertive floral and grassy note of hops with a good bitterness and a light finish showing mostly hops and quite a bit of grass, hay and yeast. Aftertaste is mild and pleasing with the hop flavours the strongest and no funky flavours or pungent notes, just the simcoe flavour of hops and a lot of dry, herbal notes. Overall, a nice and well received beer that shows exactly what you want from a session-style beer, a lot of flavour with no heaviness and assertive complexity. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Merchant’s in Dearborn, Michigan on 02-August-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 20-March-2014.

Pours a fully hazy pale amber golden with a large white head. Strong pine hop aroma, resinous, with grassy and citrus backings. Similar flavors, more grassy than citrusy, with just a hint of malt. A simple but good pale ale.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a mostly clear golden color with a medium white head. A rich floral nose with some citrus. Smooth, light flavors, low bitterness, citrus, grapefruit especially, orange peel. Very nice. Both a big beer and isn’t meant to be.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 5/3/2013. Pours moderately cloudy golden amber color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, passionfruit, lemon zest, floral, grass, light pine, light honey, and floral earthiness. Fantastic aromas with nice complexity of hop notes with a solid malt balance; with very good strength. Taste of tangerine, lemon zest, pineapple, pine, grapefruit, floral, grass, bread, light honey, and floral earthiness. Moderate floral pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus zest, citrus, pineapple, pine, floral, grass, light honey, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity of hop flavors with a solid malt balance; with plenty of flavor for 4.5% and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with nearly zero warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely fantastic session IPA! All around great flavor balance and robustness at 4.5%; and extremely smooth and crisp to drink. An incredibly delicious offering that may become a regular buy for me.

Bottle in trade. I am really trying to figure out what people DONT like about this beer! Pours cloudy yellow amber with a lot of floates and a medium off-white head that leaves some lacing. OK, not a great start. Aroma is classic simcoe - nice grapefruit and pine aromas bursting from the glass. Flavor follows, perhaps a bit watered down given that this is a session beer, but otherwise nice. Body is light, not surprising. I could drink a few of these on a hot afternoon and be quite happy about it.
